44. Believe me, many of those waiting for this storm
need someone like Steve! When my power went out during Charley all I had was the internet (battery backup) and I spent what little time I had online begging DUers for information; how much more time before the second eye wall hit, if spin off tornadoes were spotted, etc. Many made nasty comments about how "Jebland" was getting what it deserved, but at least one person fed me a few links. Knowing what's happening can really help a person through in such times.

3. I'll be watching pretty late....
I'm on the west coast, so I have a two hour advantage over the gulf coast. I'll be watching as long as WWLTV.COM continues to stream over the internet. If that goes down, I'm done-- no TV here.

Having lived in the French Quarter for a few years, it's utterly tragic to watch this disaster in slow motion.

I have a friend who works for NOPSI in the Water Dept. who is going to do what he's been training for for years. This is IT.

The Quarter may be under 20 feet of water. That REALLY sucks.

This is really really depressing. I feel so scared and helpless for the folks in the path of that damned hurricane.

I guess this is mother nature's way of saying, "you are not the boss of me". It's a lesson Idiot-in-Crawford and his neocon roaches should take to heart. I wish Bush were in New Orleans living through that nightmare with the folks in the Dome -- it might teach him a little about humility and empathy.

FYI - wlox.com has the live stream of the MS Gulf Coast television coverage of the storm. It looks like it will hit Bay St. Louis.

Say your prayers for those of us with homes in the area. :grouphug:

67. "NOGAPS SHIFTING JUST A BIT EAST OF ITS PREVIOUS TRACK"
THERE HAS BEEN NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGE TO THE TRACK FORECAST. THE
INITIAL MOTION IS 335/9. KATRINA IS EXPECTED TO GRADUALLY TURN
NORTHWARD INTO A BREAK IN THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE ASSOCIATED WITH A
LARGE MID-LATITUDE CYCLONE NEAR THE GREAT LAKES. MODEL GUIDANCE
REMAINS TIGHTLY CLUSTERED...WITH THE NOGAPS SHIFTING JUST A BIT
EAST OF ITS PREVIOUS TRACK. WHILE THERE IS GREAT SIGNIFICANCE FOR
THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS IN THE DETAILS OF THE TRACK...TRACK
ANOMOLIES OF 30-50 MILES ARE STILL POSSIBLE EVEN 12-18 HOURS OUT.

It's like watching 9-11 or the Tsunami in slow motion, knowing exactly what will happen in the next 48 hours, and being able to do nothing.

I have family who left, and at least one friend who--as of early this am--didn't plan to.

This is the place of my birth, and where I lived from 1957 until 1986.

I am in such pain, but I somehow have to go to bed and get up and go to work tomorrow.

79. I will be up for quite awhile
I have a house full of very nervous New Orleanians. Most are from the Garden District, one from the lakefront. The youngest child is blissfully unaware, and the adults are trying not to imagine what might happen - playing games, but always watching the news. I grew up in NO, so it doesn't seem real. Very quiet here in Baton Rouge now. Just waiting for tomorrow.

80. Hang in there.
Baton Rouge may be in-land but it's still gonna be a rough ride. We're thinking of you! Please post occasional updates.

86. I'm still up and watching from NC.
My heart goes out to New Orleans and environs.

We've dealt with a few hurricanes here in NC, but nothing of the magnitude of this!

91. No kidding! We lived in Willow Spring when Fran came through and
felt all sorry for ourselves, it was pretty miserable but NOTHING like this at all.

This is like comforting a best friend on her deathbed. I can't leave her, at least not in spirit.
