Susan Estrich
Susan Estrich will most likely continued to be identified as a Democrat, but my guess is that she stopped being one years ago. While its true she worked for Dukasis in 1988, most recently she worked for Richard Riordan's campaign for the repukelican nomination for governor of California in the spring of 2002.
She has an op ed piece in today's LA Times decrying the Times story on Swartzengrooper as political dirty tricks. In that piece, she refers to the Times as a part of Davis's cheer leading section. I was surprised to read that description, but remembering her connection with Riordan's campaign, she hates anything that even smells of Davis. Also, in order to vote for Riordan in the 2002 primary, she would have to have registered as a repuke.

A link to the Times story:

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-estrich3oct03,1,1427245.story?coll=la-news-comment-opinions

some snippets:

<snip>

"The anonymous incidents occurred on movie sets and consist of touching a woman's breast in the elevator, whispering vulgarities and pulling a woman onto his lap. Though emphasizing that not everything in the stories was accurate, the candidate responded Thursday with an apology: "Yes, it is true that I was on rowdy movie sets and I have done things that were not right which I thought then was playful, but now I recognize that I offended people." And he pledged to treat women with respect if elected.

As a professor of sex discrimination law for two decades and an expert on sexual harassment, I certainly don't condone the unwanted touching of women that was apparently involved here. But these acts do not appear to constitute any crime, such as rape or sodomy or even assault or battery. As for civil law, sexual harassment requires more than a single case of unwelcome touching; there must be either a threat or promise of sex in exchange for a job benefit or demotion, or the hostile environment must be severe and pervasive.

But none of these women, as The Times emphasizes, ever came forward to complain. The newspaper went looking for them, and then waited until five days before the election to tell the fragments of the story."

"But here's my prediction, as a Californian: It's too late for the Los Angeles Times' charges to have much impact. People have made up their minds. This attack, coming as late as it does, from a newspaper that has been acting more like a cheerleader for Gray Davis than an objective source of information, will be dismissed by most people as more Davis-like dirty politics. Is this the worst they could come up with? Ho-hum. After what we've been through?"
........

"To his credit, Schwarzenegger apologized for "behaving badly." So should the Los Angeles Times"

<end snip>

Ms Estrich is a genuine repuke now. No hypocracy here. Just an overwhelming appearance of one. Where has that been seen before?

1. She works for FAUX NEWS
She works for FAUX NEWS on Hannity and Colmes. She can barely back up her points to Sean Hannity. She doesn't have an understanding of the issues.

2. She also trashed Gore during the campaign
She wrote an editorial during the campaign that implied Gore disrespects women because too few of his top advisers, according the her, were women. It hurt him.

5. so let me get this straight....
Gore is a bad guy because he has to few women on his campaign team (by the way, the head of his campaign was an african american woman) and Arnold can grope women and touch them wherever and whenever he wants to and that is okay and shame on the LA Times for reporting it.

It was what Susan Estrich said. I never thought Gore disrespected women. He had many women advisors.

3. I wonder what happened....
to her? She used to be a good representative for the liberal point of view on TV. She was a good debater and had the facts to back her point of view up. She made me proud seeing her on TV representing the Democratic point of view. Does anyone know her history and can tell me why she is going over the dark side? Is it just money and being a media whore. What is it? I am really curious to find out.

Unless you can somehow believe anything the GOP has advocated or done has been beneficial to America. I personally can think of nothing.

4. Riordan had a few Democrats working for him
one was Clint Reilley--a local San Francisco Democratic consultant who ran for mayor last time around.

Davis was not popular with all Democrats. Honestly, if Riordan had won the nomination, I would have voted for him.

I know a lot of people like that. I wish Riordan had gotten into the race rather than Ahnuld. Riordan is one Republican I could have supported.

If that makes me a bad guy, so be it

8. Call me narrow minded if you want, but Democrats DON'T WORK for repukes
To me, it is that simple. Gray Davis is a Democrat. Richard Riordan isn't.
The repukes have been waging war on Democrats, for years. IMHO, if somebody goes over to the dark side, they stay on the dark side, FOREVER.
I don't believe in taking repuke prisoners and I would shoot their wounded. This war should be fought just like the Eastern Front in WW two.

6. Lots of women don't come forward for rape, either
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 11:27 AM by Woodstock
Because they don't want to become victims twice, and for wanting to move past it, among other reasons. But that doesn't mean it didn't happen, or it wasn't a bad thing. How absurd her argument is.

Also, it isn't a crime for a movie star to be sexist, but last time I heard, sexism wasn't a real desirable trait in a governor. It's not a crime for someone to say they admire Hitler, either, but that's not a real good trait for a governor, either. Silly me, I must have been confused to think it wasn't good for governors to grope women like pieces of meat and say Hitler was their hero. What was I thinking?

I doubt I'd have come forward about the asshole groping me, I'd have kneed him and told a few people in the biz to have him steer clear of me or I'd do it again. And there are LOTS more of them than just the six, count on that.

Her article is HOGWASH designed to get what she wants (there's got to be money or power in it for her somewhere) without showing any principles. Yep, she's a Republican all right.

And ultimately she must be held accountable for her failure to win. While it may not have been the blowouts that 1972, 1980, and 1984 were, her candidate managed to lose more than 40 states.

29. Well look what Newsmax thought 4 years ago:
"With the accusation of rape being made against Estrich's beloved president, she now wants to reevaluate this attitude. According to her, the legal definition of what constitutes force is now more complicated and feminists need to exercise more skepticism when judging claims such as those made by Juanita Broaddrick.....Estrich argues that verifying Broaddrick's claims is "an impossible task." ....Like her hero, Bill Clinton, Ms. Estrich likes to play clever games with words. She does this when she says that whether rape occurred or not "turns on what happened when only two people were present."

22. Good Stuff on DailyHowler.com today too
Meanwhile, speaking of clowning performances, Susan Estrich was there in person last night as Hannity and Colmes did a live show from Philly. Estrich, of course, is a “Fox News Democrat”—is even more likely to trash her party than the “Hardball Dems” seen on MSNBC. Earlier in the California recall campaign, Estrich wrote a truly ludicrous op-ed column; in it, she trashed Arianna Huffington for ignoring her children while she conducted her race for the State House. But last night, Estrich was thoroughly miffed at the day’s reporting on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s groping and grabbing. The L. A. Times had landed on Arnold.

...I agree that this was bullshit on the part of the LA Times. This was an overt attempt to influence the election, which newspapers should not be in the business of doing.

If a paper had done the exact same thing to a Democrat, everyone on this site would be screaming bloody morder.

"Rampant intellectual inconsistency"? Sounds like a kissing cousin of the "ideological purity" charge so-called moderates toss at anyone to their left who dig in their heels at the party's tug to the right.

And "rampant"? Haw! Like the way DU is bursting with anti-American pro-Cuban radicals? You see what you want to see, chief.

BTW, you think your worldview is tight, unsullied by inconsistencies? There isn't a person on this earth without some hypocritical stances. But for whatever reason, you seem to spend an inordinate amount of time making crabbed posts condemning the bulk of DU. Weird hobby.

He's the Poster Boy of Trash Politics
By K.B. Forbes

K.B. Forbes, a GOP strategist, was communications director for Bill Simon's most recent gubernatorial campaign.

October 3, 2003

Arnold Schwarzenegger has become the poster child for the newest form of trash politics: a political system so corrupt and undemocratic that a compulsive sexual deviant was anointed the de facto nominee by California GOP bosses in a smoke-free backroom.

How much did Schwarzenegger's campaign team know about his egregious sexual behavior? Did they intentionally attempt to conceal this pattern of sexual harassment from voters? Did leaders of the California Republican Party look the other way in their desperation to win back the governorship?

In an era in which a candidate's first order of business is to hire an opposition research specialist to investigate his own past, it's hard to imagine that this was overlooked.

What Schwarzenegger's boosters in the GOP establishment fail to understand is that this is not about an old extramarital affair or someone's sex life from years past. This is worse. This is the story of a guy who rode the elevator, groping a woman on the way up, and who is now about to get off on the top floor: the governor's office.

Simply put, Schwarzenegger is unfit to be governor.
