Not an actual DU poll, but a question: Who thinks the leaker will cop to
it? Or will it have to be a whole investigative process? I'm trying to imagine how I would be reacting if I were the guilty party and admit it's hard to imagine (I guess this really is a 'hypothetical' ;-))

1. No, I think they will fight it kicking and screaming all the way
Considering that all road lead to Rove, and Cheney/Libby, I don't see a confession AT ALL. In fact, I spend more time wondering what MORE destruction is possible when evil RATS are backed into a corner and desperate.

2. They don't react like you or me. It's the Sopranos - without the
code of honor (The Sopranos don't touch wives).
McClellan was taunting reporters "Bring them on" :Do you have any specific info? (Read: Do you dare finger Rove?))
And according to Steno Sue, Whistle ass was doing the same to reporters: "Martin, if you have specific info...."
They are supremely arrogant - and why not? Look how much they got away with...
If things get really bad for them, they may designate a fall guy - not Karl, I'm sure. His family will be well taken care of...

3. Some low level drone will confess
I can picture this, someone we've never heard of will be pressured to confess. They'll end up on F*x news in prime time...

4. I think Rove will try to play it like the 16 words bulls**t...

Two or three people will say I didn't know it was a felony when I did it..And Bush will say "well we know who did it, now get over it."

But not knowing or claiming to be ignorant of the law does not excuse the illegal activity.

I think this will play out like Watergate. covering-up is already starting with Ashcroft's delay in telling staffers to save all materials and shred nothing at White House request.

The floating of the maybe the person didn't know they were committing a crime lame excuse...
No this will go to an independant counsel and it will have a Watergate finale.

5. These dudes are kind of between a rock and a hard place
..and I'm going to open a beer and get a bag of popcorn and pull up a chair to the front row and enjoy!!! Every news person keeps telling us that these things are rarely found because reporters won't tell their sources and the guilty won't confess. Thus, if Ashcroft's final report is "search us, we found nuttin'", there will be an uproar of the coverup that the Dems are already accusing that Aschcroft will do. After all, 70% of the people think we need an independent investigation. It will unleash a firestorm that can be referenced over and over again through the elections and emphasizes the lying, cover up, deceit nature of this administration. So they have to have a public hanging.....and if it isn't big enough, still the people will not believe. No one thinks the damn janitor spilled the beans. They already know it's more than one person. And they realize that lower level people outside places like those in the highest levels don't have access to this type of classified info.

6. It will be hard for them to spin this too far out....
or seek a scapegoat because Wilson and the CIA actually know who the leakers really are...:)

I think the CIA wnats to give them enough rope to hang themselves....

Larry Johnson knows...:) At least 5 news reporters also know.

7. I'm not convinced Wilson knows, but I think you're right about CIA...
and of course Novakula does too. Plus the other reporters...all of which begs the question, since there are obviously a bunch of people who DO know, why wouldn't the guilty party just confess (and why is a full-blown investigation even be necessary?)

The only thing that makes any sense to me is that it goes all the way to the top (or next to top) and that's why they're trying so hard to deflect, delay and dissemble. And now that I've thought about it a bit more, I'm inclined to think if I were the guilty party, I'd figure on at least taking down whoever doped out the plan if I'm gonna be in deep shit anyway...

This stuff is hard to figure.

8. I don't think so.
The reporters know, and likely a lot of other people know, who the people in the white house were who hatched the plot to intimidate Wilson. It might have been Cheney. Whoever it was (I'm assuming no one did this alone) is too high up to confess. If they try to get some lower person to confess, I really don't think anyone would do it knowing it could mean 10 years in jail. Anyway, if a phony comes forward, lots of people will know he/she's a phony and I think it will come out. So, as Starpass said, they are between a rock and a hard place. It will be fun to see how they get out of this one.
