More Republican links to Nazis
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 10:44 AM by 9215
As we watch the story of Auhnold's admiration of Hitler "and what he did with it" unfold it is important to remember that this in only one incident of the Republican's affinity for Nazi's. For political expediency and not moral scruples Poppy Bush fired 7 known Nazis working in his 1988 presidential campaign:

Regarding Bush's involvement with Nazis, the Village Voice reported on Nov 1, 1988 in "The Real Nazis Behind Every Bush," that "the seven protofascists given the boot by his campaign team two months earlier had been part of the GOP's systematic recruitment of the most extreme rightwing elements in the Eastern European ethnic communities of the United States... The Bush ally with perhaps the closest ties to Hitler's Germany was Yaroslav Stetsko, whose group, the Anti-Bolshevik Bloc of Nations , was a prominent participant in a 1983 White House meeting featuring talks by both President Reagan and the vice president. Bush signed a photograph taken at that meeting 'To the Honorable Yaroslav Stesko, With Best Wishes, George Bush.' ...

This was just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There is a long and cozy relationship between Right-Wing elements in the US and
WWII German Nazis beginning "officially" when Allen Dulles sought a "separate peace" against Truman's orders

.....The principle negotiator on the German side was SS Commander Karl Wolff, head of the Gestapo in Italy. Wolff acted with full authority, for he was formerly chief of Heinrich Himmler's personal staff. Wolff’s relationship with Dulles spared him from the dock at Nuremberg, but when it was later discovered that he had dispatched "at least" 300,000 Jews to the Treblinka death camp he was handed a token sentence. In 1983 Wolff made the social pages when he and some of his old SS buddies sojourned on the late Hermann Goering's yacht Carin II of Hamburg. The skipper was Gert Heidemann, an avowed Hamburg nazi. The yacht belonged to the widow, Emmy Goering, whose estate attorney was the celebrated Melvin Belli. Belli has always had an eclectic clientele. He represented Jack Ruby after he shot Oswald. And he represented actor Errol Flynn's family interests. Flynn (once a close friend of Ronald Reagan) has been identified as having collaborated with the Gestapo....
Then Thyssen "I paid Hitler" Post WWII link to Skorzeny and Latin American death squads.
.....By 1952 Klaus Barbie had arrived in Bolivia via a stop in Argentina. He had been spirited out of Germany by the CIA, with a hand from the Vatican. Soon he teamed up with SS Major Otto Skorzeny, who now was affiliated with the CIA. Dr. Fritz Thyssen and Dr. Gustav Krupp, both beneficiaries of McCloy's amnesty, bankrolled Skorzeny from the start. Barbie and Skorzeny were soon forming death squads such as the Angels of Death in Bolivia, the Anti-Communist Alliance in Argentina, and in Spain, with Stephen Della Chiaie, the Guerrillas of Christ the King......

and continued with some of those very same Nazis through to the Iran Contra scandal where author/ columnist Alexander Coburn in his book "Whiteout" linked the company Merex, a Klause Barbie concoction, to Ollie North's Contra supply network:

......By the time he went on the payroll of an American intelligence organization in 1947, Klaus Barbie had lived several lifetimes of human vileness. He sought out opponents of the Nazis in Holland, chasing them down with dogs. he had worked for the Nazi mobile death squads on the Eastern Front, massacuring Slavs and Jews. h'd put in two years heading the Gestapo office in Lyons, torturing to death Jews and French Resistance fighters (among them the head of the Resistance, Jean Moulin). After the liberation of France, Barbie participated in the final Nazi killing frensy before the Allies moved into Germany. (pp.167)

Yet the career of this frightful war criminal scarcely missed a beat before he was securely on the US payroll in postwar Germany, then was shipped out by his new paymasters along the ratline to Bolivia. There he began a new life remarkably like his old one, working fo the secret police and for drug lords and engaging in arms trafficking. His old skills as a torturer were frequently in demand......became a major player in the US-inspired Condor Program to suppress popular insurgencies and keep US-backed dictators in power throughout Latin America....In 1980 he helped orchestrate the so-called 'cocaine coup' in Bolivia where a group of generals took over slaughtering their leftist oponents and raping billions in the cocaine boom."

But this wasn't the first time Barbie had participated in coups in Bolivia. In 1957 Barbie and his family recieved citizenship in Bolivia. Barbie had an uneasiness with the leader of Bolivia Paz Estenssoro, this uneasiness was mirrored by similar grumblings in Washinton where concern for Estenssoro's 'cordial relationship with Fidel Casto and his refusal to crush a tin miners strike made him a possible 'left leaning' leader. Barbie plotted with one General Rene' Barrientos Ortuno to overthrow Estenssoro and did so in 1964. Barbie secured a job on El presidente Barrientos's internal security forces and fertilizing the seeds of Naziism to once again bloom. They slaughtered the leaders of the tin miners strike as they had the Resistance in France and Bolivia received several million dollars in aide, $800,000 of which went into Barrientos's pockets.

"With a more stable and authoritarian regime in power, Barbie took the opportunity to expand his financial empire. He started an enterprise called the Estrella Company, which sold quinine bark, coca paste and assault weapons. He also hooked up with Frederich Scwend, the SS's finacial whiz, who had ended up in Lima, Peru. Schwend had been sent to Latin America through the Nazi underground by the OSS after telling Allen Dulles where the SS had cached millions in cash, gold and jewels.....

The two Nazi's also joined forces to create Transmaritania, a shipping company.....This shipping company began by handling flour, cotton, tin and coffee, but soon turned to more profitable cargo: guns and drugs. The source for most of the weapons included attack boats, tanks and fighter planes, marketed by Barbie and Schwend to regimes across South America was a Bonn-based company called Merex. Merex was controlled by another ex-Nazi taken on by the US: Colonel Otto Skorzeny, Hitler's favorite stormtrooper and the man who had rescued Mussolini from prison. During the height of the Contra War Oliver North's operation would turn to Merex to consummate a $2 million weapons deal, thus underlining the essential continuity of Nazi alliances in US agencies from Army Intelligence to the OSS to the CIA to Reagan's National Security Council.....
