was Bush being playful or did he just threaten a reporter named April.

He said something like "April, are you going to try again to look like you're in the -- be careful."

As usual, Bush has trouble even getting the most basic of sentences past his lips.

At any rate, my impression has been that he tries to control reporters by either openly putting them down or maneuvering them into mascot status by bestowing a nickname on them. The hostility and the need for control are both very palpable. This is not a person comfortable with scrutiny, speaking off the cuff, or anything that resembles a challenge to his power.
