23. the networks have the exit polls already
What you don't seem to be taking into account is the networks have the exit poll data thats been collected already. If the numbers given by Drudge are correct, all these anchors have seen them it wouldn't be that out there for one of them to slip up and call him govenor already.

17. they do count the votes
...but when their polling has it 59-41, 51-30, even if they are considerably wrong, odds are the end result is the same.

The polls are seldom 'that' wrong.

What did those exit polls say? Good gawwwd, they already know he's won it? Wasn't it also said the counting could take a week?

21. exit polls and the margin of victory
Looks like margins of 59-41 and 51-30 are wide enough to make calling the race easy. There is almost no chance that absentee ballots would impact the result (though they may impact the margin).

31. if the margin is as great as being reported...
The margin of the absentee ballots would have to be amazingly different than the general election to change the result.

It may change the numbers, but likely won't change the result.

Lets let this one go. Can anyone say they are really surprised?

9. What are they basing this on?
Are they giving some reason for calling the election before the polls close? Exit polls? Other polls? What are they saying?

16. the networks usually call it on exit polling
...if the race isn't close enough. In other words, if a race is 50-50 in their exit poll, they won't call it until more votes are officially counted.

If it's 53-47 in their polls, they call it based on that.

When it's 59-41, and 51-30, they have been talking about it since 4pm pacific, amongst themselves of course.

10. they are lowlifes...
...to talk about it while polls are still open.

They don't base their projections on the votes counted, unless it's too close.

They base projections on exit polling. An exit poll can't possibly be 20 points off.

32. Egged or stoned?
Do you really mean this? Will it be better for the Democrats if losers do this to the winners? Would you want to see somebody hurt Arnold and then proclaim they did it for the greater glory of the Democrats? Would that help?

18. Exactly what they did in the 2000 (s)election. They supposedly
regretted their "mistake" in jumping the gun. Folks...the roots of corruption in this country run long and deep. It is ENTIRELY up to the people to change course. Quit hanging your hopes on a corrupted system! It is BROKEN! GET IT???!!!

28. Yes, I think you're right
I remember them prematurely announcing that Al Gore had taken Florida, then it all went downhill from there.

Quit hanging your hopes on a corrupted system! It is BROKEN! GET IT???!!!

Is it cynical corporate media pigs wrapping themselves in the Bill of Rights as they deliberately influence a real election, or greedy corporate media pigs wrangling for ratings with no regard for how their action might affect the real outcome of an election?

20. We have a law in Canada that would not allow what is happening
We have a law here that prevents the networks from making these announcements that the election has been decided until after the polls have closed....I think what is happening down there is disgraceful!

29. That sounds like a good law
Since the networks lack the restraint to do the right thing by policing themselves not to make such annonouncements, perhaps their inability to wield their tremendous power fairly and evenly justifies some reasonable limits on the timing of their exercising their freedom of speech.

30. It is the same here in Australia.
The networks aren't allowed to call it until the final vote has been counted. They can speculate all they like, but they can't call it.

I REALLY hope there is organized booing, egg-and-rotten-vegetable throwing, etc.

Hey, if I lived in CA I'd be there! With what I'd normally throw out of my fridge.

Not the puke breed, but patriotic Americans who can give Gary Coleman the election he earned! Or Larry Flynt, my heart is with Larry but since Bev said he may be a party to litigation I changed my position. As the last sober survivor of Different Strokes Gary deserved some recognition.
