"Get over it"
I know this is hard advice to accept, but I think it is good advice. Time to move on to other challenges, heck, you never know, Arnold might end up hurting the GOP more than he helps them. Eyes on the prize folks.

6. I think you are right about Arnold hurting
The Republicans. He's not going to fix anything, I doubt he'll even try all that hard. He's what we call a feather weight. Now if the California Governors mansion is over run with terrorists, well, then he might do a good job, based on some of the movies I've seen. Or if a robot is sent from the future to assassinate the Governor of California.

10. The only thing Ahnold is required to "fix"
...will be the voting systems in time for November 04. That, and dropping the $9 billion lawsuit, are the only reasons Team BCE placed their "empty suit" in Sacramento. I don't think anyone in the GOP realistically expects the Verminator to fix the problems that Pete Wilson and Ken Lay caused. If they gave a shit about that sort of thing, they never would have nominated another Bush.

8. Right. Arnold is now a target, and an easy one at that.
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 10:16 AM by Brotherjohn
The people of California now have the change they wanted. They probably really didn't care what that change was. (EDIT: I'm speaking, of course, of the net result. NOT of the desires of every California voter.)

Now, Arnold meets the real world of politics, and has to try to balance Cali's books without raising taxes (indeed, with drastically cutting them, as he has promised). Now Arnold has to govern as, undoubtedly, more and more accusations and lawsuits, and possible criminal proceedings, will come down.

Perhaps Dianne Feinstein and other prominent Dems were shruder than we think. They sensed that the recall was going to be hard to defeat either way, and even if they did defeat it, they would be left with an enormously unpopular governor in office, and the Dems would likely lose in the next gubernatorial election.

This way, they put Arnold (or whichever repub had won) out there to hang, during tough fiscal times with the state in shambles. It gives the repubs a chance to become the bad guys, and a Dem may very well end up sitting in the Governor's mansion for the next full term.

Maybe that's why Feinstein (or another prominent Dem) did not run now. They are waiting for a better opportunity.

9. I had read that several prominent Calif. Dems
chose to avoid the recall, perhaps for the reasons you cite.

13. you saw how jesse ventura turned out
and jesse ventura is far more intelligent than arnold. jesse actually did p olitical shows and debates and could discuss his views and some policy. i'm actually interesting in seeing how arnold handles all this. especially since the legislature is democratic controlled. you know what an idiot arnold is. on the today show when matt lauer questioned arnold, arnold pretended the sound wasn't working and that he couldn't HEAR the question when in reality he couldn't ANSWER the question asked. how long can he go on without answering and discussing things on his own ?

12. Get over it? Gawddammit!

Hit the media that put this twerp in office. They convinced the people to vote for this vacuous, ignorant sexist pile of excrement.

Hit the goddamned media. They're responsible for hyping this flaming dildo on steroids.

Gawd, that was a crummy metaphor....

but for the life of me I just cannot understand why people would vote for Arnold. First of all, you can bearly understand him when he speaks, he does not and never will talk about the issues in specifics because he is unable to do so, and just because he is a famous actor people think he would make a good governo?. If it was not so sad it would be too funny. I mean the groping and Hitler allegations does not bother me (unless of course the Hitler thing is true which Arnold denies). But come on people of California why did you vore this guy in. Based on what other than he is a super action hero? At least Ronald Reagan had been involved in politics before he ran for governor and he could talk about the issues and get into the details of his plans. But Arnold? Sheeeeesh! :-(

17. Too many of us de facto "getting over it" about Gore landed us here...
Too many of us (and by "us" I mean Democrats) de facto "getting over it" about Gore landed us here in the first place.

"Certain individuals" think that they can get away with anything.
And why WOULDN'T they think that? After all, they succeeded in engineering a presidential election with little or no consequences to them long term.

I propose that every democrat outraged by the California debacle and its result sign up for one or more of the Gore movements. A spike in Gore movement membership right now would send a message to the "certain individuals" that real people understand the linkage between Florida, Texas, and California. The snowball of election engineering must be stopped.

Yesterday, my vote was put in a pink provisional envelope and may or may not end up counting in the final tally. I should never have had to cast any sort of vote in the first place.

I've said my bit.
