1. They'll not want to run liberals in the future
AS will avoid tax increases, but other than that, the Kennedy clan now controls California

2. That policy issues have to be discussed during an election ...
... in order for a new governor to have a mandate to do anything. When I first heard that Arnold Schwarzengroper was considering running for governor, I was sure it was just a publicity stunt to promote his latest movie. When, just under the filing deadline, he announced his candidacy on Jay Leno, my opinion was reinforced: Publicity Stunt.

But then someting pretty unique happened. Schwarzengroper got a free pass from the press that made Dubya's free pass look like the right-wing plot against Bill Clinton. His campaign got away with refusing all unscripted debates, giving interviews only to fantasy-land fluffmeisters like Leno and Mary Hart, and getting newspaper coverage that mainly consisted of smiling DAILY front-page pictures, with no discussion of his positions or lack of positions on policy issues.

Thus the third of Hispanics who voted for him will be surprised when their undocumented friends lose their new dirvers licenses. The 17 percent of African-Americans Ahnold got will be surprised when sales taxes go up, social services are cut back, and David Dreier and Pete Wilson are running things in Sacramento again. Schwarzengroper won't even be there--he'll be too busy with elaborate tax-paid parties in LA. The third of "union" households who voted for the groper will be surprised when government jobs are "privatized".

Within two years, I predict there'll be a strong effort to recall Ahnold. Remember, Pete Wilson was popular with Hispanics too until his push for Prop 187.
