I wouldn't wish drug addiction on anyone, and, try as I might (and I'm REALLY trying x( ) I am not getting many jollies out of Jeff Christie's drug-addled plight.

Still and all, he remains the flaming nazi gasbag he always was, and I hope his 30-day detox becomes permanent retirement.

If he changes his position on the War on Drugs, he could have a LOT of influence. He has tens of millions of people who willingly soak up everything he says.

And this delight in his suffering is a bit disturbing to me. We're progressives -- we're the party of true compassion, right? We have compassion for murderers on death row in many cases, and the guilty ones surely don't "deserve" it. I, for one, will not stoop to the level of the conservatives and rejoice in Rush's suffering.

I will pray for his experience to give him compassion and new understanding. To change him. That will work to everyone's good.

He used drugs illegally.

He broke federal law in receiving them.

The drug he used, OxyContin, is the drug of choice in frightening rise of drugstore robberies - in the war on drugs he is aiding the terrorists.

All the while he did those crimes he used his bully pulpit to increase hatred and fear against the very populations he is a part of - those of criminals and addicts. The only difference is that he is WORSE because he supports criminals by buying their ill-gotten drugs and because he vilifies the street addict.

He may get off on these charges and he may even figure a way to spin it all to save his hide and his career, but hell will surely have a special place for this hypocritical bigot.

And that makes me very happy and I am perfectly comfortable with feeling that way.
