1. Do you think Ahnold will endorse Bush* next year?
Ahnold is already asking for a bail out for CA, do you think he'll get it?
Interesting article!

2. doesn't this contradict Jeff Greenfield's question at the debate?
Didn't he say that the dems have lost the American people on values?

12. I saw those all over MD next year
But see Ehrlich was running in a heavily Democratic state. Thus he had to be "bipartisan".

9. I want to know how in the heck someone can apply the word "articulate" to
Edited on Fri Oct-10-03 10:17 PM by w4rma
Arnold.

But, if the Republicans decide they will start acting like social liberals/pre-1960 Republicans then that works for me. I think that they could as their conservative base seems to be more brainwashed and partisan than principled.

Republicans are still Royalists and aristocrats who have learned how to **act** like they aren't.

11. I don't see it. What's he articulated?
Edited on Fri Oct-10-03 10:19 PM by w4rma
To me, the word seems to have been used because the author wanted to complement Arnold even if the complement had to be made up.

13. Arnold style Republicans are the future Republican Party
Even hardcore repukes like Dick Morris acknowledge the long term trends: the population is becoming more diverse and more secular, which doesn't bode well for conservatives.

Even with control of all branches of government, Bush still proceeds cautiously when it comes to social issues like abortion and gun control.

I believe this is the last we're going to see of a strong conservative Republican Party.

Eventually the right wing will be as weak in this country as it is in places like Canada. The Republicans will stil have 50% of the power, but they'll be much further to the left of where they are now, i.e. more George Pataki than George Will.

14. I think both Parties are morphing and labels are becoming less
meaningful.

For instance, most here don't want to have government snooping in our private lives, we what fiscal responsibility, and we are not into foreign entanglements. These would have described a conservative not so many years ago.

Precisely the oppositte seems to apply to the Republican Party's agenda today....does that make them liberal?

There is a very strong contrast in values and objectives, but I suspect that Democrats have a much greater breadth of opinions (left/moderate/right) than the Reoublicans do today....in fact, I think, on more crude terms, one could say we are for the rule of law while the current Republican Party appears to be lawless (ie...making the rules up as they go along).
