Texas House Members Walk Out, Once Again Delaying Redistricting Vote

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The state Legislature's hopes of adopting a new congressional map have been pushed back - yet again.
Although the House passed a compromise bill on the redistricting plan earlier in the day, Senate Republicans refused to vote on it until the House passed an unrelated bill.

By the time that government reorganization bill came up for a vote, House Democrats and a few Republicans were missing.

Lacking a quorum to conduct business, Republican House Speaker Tom Craddick ordered that the missing lawmakers return to the Capitol, but the House ultimately adjourned until Sunday afternoon.

Grey Davis should find a way to refuse to leave office, or just make one up arbitrarily. What does he have to lose; he was going to retire anyway. Obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. Make the Republicans scream and get red faced and stamp their feet. I don't care what the opposition thinks anymore, frankly.

But the problem is that I'm not sure they realize what their party is becoming. The heart and soul of Republican grass roots activism can be found pretty easily: it's in Texas. The New Model radical right took over the Texas Republican party a decade ago and elected George Bush governor. They have since taken over the entire state and propelled one of their own to the presidency and another to leadership of the House of Representatives. They bring a messianic fervor to their task, and after successfully taking over the second biggest state in the union their sights are now set on the entire country. This is not a fringe group. It is the biggest, most active, most energetic, and most determined segment of the Republican party today.>>

The only compromise was between insane republicans and totally insane republicans. The democrats were totally excluded from any input at all, as was the public. :mad:
