Newsweek on Rush: "a childless, twice-divorced, thrice-married schlub"
I am nowhere near the end of the story, but I fell off of my chair when I read this!

-snip-
But Limbaugh’s story owes more to the “Wizard of Oz” than “The Scarlet Letter.” The man behind the curtain is not the God of Family Values but a childless, twice-divorced, thrice-married schlub whose idea of a good time is to lie on his couch and watch football endlessly. When Rush Limbaugh declared to his radio audience that he was “your epitome of morality of virtue, a man you could totally trust with your wife, your daughter, and even your son in a Motel 6 overnight,” he was acting. He “regards himself as an entertainer who is very pleased that people pay attention to his political views,” says Wall Street editorial writer John Fund, who collaborated with Limbaugh on one of the radio host’s books (“The Way Things Ought to Be”).
-snip-

Damn that was cold!

1. This is precisely what I DON'T get about his audience.
He calls them DITTOHEADS to their faces; his defense is that he is an entertainer (he's fallen back on that every time he's been challenged) and they still slavishly follow him.

Sheesh.

4. The "entertainer" shtick was a joke he and his dittoheads shared...
When he would finish spinning the latest lie destined to the Repuke talking points list, he would end with "But what do I know, I'm just an entertainer" (wink wink, nudge nudge).

Librarians are guardians of knowledge, the keepers of what Andrew Carnegie called 'the people's universities'.

People with closed minds generally avoid situations where they might have to open them.

(from the other thread doubting whether he will be prosecuted: ) Here's the Newsweek story that sez not to count out prosecution of users like him. (The rest of the quotes regarding his personal inadequacies are being included just because.) Btw, Howie KURTZ scolded us today on "Reliable" Sources, saying that we have a perfect right to HAMMER LIMBOsevic on the grounds of his politics, but NOT because of his personal failings. Yeah, O.K., Howie.

******QUOTE*****
http://www.msnbc.com/news/979355.asp?0cv=CB20

.... virtually every newspaper dredged up this 1995 quote from Rush: “Too many whites are getting away with drug use. The answer is to ... find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them, and send them up the river.” The penalty for illegally buying large quantities of prescription painkillers in Florida can be five years in jail, and contrary to some published reports, prosecutors do go after users as well as pushers—especially if they want to make an example of a celebrity. ....

(His most recent contract, signed in 2001 for eight years, was for $285 million.) But his personal life left something to be desired. Despite his fervent moralizing, he smoked a little pot and watched a little porn (as he has publicly admitted). His first two marriages failed. His second wife, Michelle, told Vanity Fair that Limbaugh’s father never quite approved of his career path, and that Rush would be depressed and deflated every time he got off the phone with his dad. ....

His self-absorption made dating difficult. Two women who dated Limbaugh told conservative activist (and Limbaugh friend) Paul Weyrich that they couldn’t seem to get his attention. “They both said, ‘I’ll never go on a date with him again’,” Weyrich told NEWSWEEK. “They did not have a good time. He talked about himself and didn’t seem interested in them at all.” ....

In 1994, Limbaugh married his current spouse, Marta Fitzgerald, a former aerobics instructor who is nine years younger (they met through a computer bulletin-board service). Shortly after they were married, a $125-a-plate audience became uneasy when Limbaugh called his wife onstage and then seemed to forget that she was there. As he ranted at Democrats, she seemed to cower and edge toward the shadows. ....

Anyhewww this and the other stories today from Newsweek beg for a screenplay. Can't you just see a movie about this hypocrite's double life? Of course, the ending is not known yet but I'll definitely be in line to see this when it comes to the big screen.

56. Rush was very hard up for a woman
Rush met Marta in an internet chat room. She was a married aerobics instructor in Jacksonville, FL with 2 kids. On air he called her his Jacksonville Jaguar. Left her husband and kids. Would love to know how much cash and how little sex was involved in this deal. The Enquirer published pre-plastic surgery pictures of her. He obviously needed a public wife very badly, cleaned her up, and paid her off. Do a search under Marta Limbaugh. He financed a magazine she wanted to publish- first issue never even came out because she was such a witch everyone she hired to do the magazine quit. I haven't heard him say much about her in a long time so I presume they really lead separate lives and he drags her out when needed. She didn't know about the drugs in 6 years? Give me a break. We'll see how long she stays with him now before collecting the rest of the cash and saying adios.

What exactly is an honorary member of Congress? Does he get an honorary vote? ("it doesn't count but vote so we can see what you think") an honorary staff. It seems like an incredibly silly honor to bestow on someone, especially one as partisan as him. If it were some doctor who discovered a cure or a poet or something I could see.

"Limbaugh’s own mother remarked on his somewhat passive-aggressive reticence as a child. Little Rush was “very quiet,” his mother, Millie, told the Southeast Missourian, a newspaper. At Halloween, “he really didn’t care much for trick or treating. He would rather stay at home. I found he was upstairs and he’d have water balloons. Sometimes when the little children would leave, he would drop them down.” Limbaugh’s best friend in high school, Craig Valle, told Peter Boyer for a May 1992 Vanity Fair article, “You would find him in his dark bedroom playing with his tape recorder and radio.”"

I understand he's an antiabortnoid, and it is a little strange for those like Buchanan and Limpballs to to rail against the decline of the 'white' population when they themselves are not breeding, but really, isn't that a good thing that they're not?

I think there's a good chance Rush Limbaugh has been doing drugs for a lot longer than most people yet suspect.

It accounts for the rantings and ravings that have increased in number over the years--as have the ridiculous, juvenile voices. It would account for so many things mentioned in this article.

It is not surprising that he has few friends and spends a lot of time alone.

Wizard of Oz, yes indeed.
