But Larry Dearborn, a veteran from Richmond, Maine, had a different view to share about Bush on Thursday.

Dearborn and a handful of veterans picketed outside the Guard base to draw attention to Bush’s stance on bill H.R. 303.

The measure looks to restore pension funding to disabled veterans. Bush has said he will veto the bill, according to Dearborn.

Dearborn served in the Army for 20 years, rose to the rank of sergeant first class, and served in Korea, Vietnam and Germany.

On Thursday, he held a sign that read, "Out the door in 2004" - a snipe at Bush’s tenure in office.

"I was a Republican all my life until about a month ago. I switched over to send a message," said Dearborn.

Dick Bosa, of Portsmouth, came out to protest Bush’s stance on the economy.

"I am protesting Bush because he is the consummate multinational corporate executive," said Bosa. "All of his economic programs are to enrich the multinationals, and we in New Hampshire are losing our valuable manufacturing base and our jobs to their greedy agenda."

In response to the president’s visit to Manchester, a three-story-high inflatable rat was set up in Veterans Park across from the Center of New Hampshire, where Bush spoke to members of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

The rat bore a sign saying, "Hello, my name is George W. Bush."

The signs carried by protesters in the Manchester park ranged from those criticizing the president’s policies to some attacking Bush personally.

"Send GI George to Tikrit" one read - another, "Stop Him Before He Kills Again."

Deedee Maratea’s sign simply said, "Stop the Bush Tax Heist."

Maratea, a supporter of presidential candidate Howard Dean, said Bush has to be removed from office in order to save the economy and the country.

"There should be protest after protest," the Loudon resident said. "Like Dr. Dean says, we have to take America back."

"Bush is failing all of us," she said. "There is no area where I feel Bush has not messed up the country."
