Boycott Rush Stations NOW
As Mr. Limbaugh is attempting to "fix his fix"...his "golden microphone" will be revolved to various wingnut hosts...hoping to keep the seat warm until his Oxymodal voice returns to the airwaves. So far I have yet to hear any comment from Premier Broadcasting...the REAL EIB...that distributes and promotes the program. In many cases, it requires affiliates to take other Right Wing shows to get Rush.

Now's the time on the local level to let your station and its advertisers know what you think of them continuing to carry a self-admitted drug abuser and how poorly this reflects on the station/business imagine. This isn't a matter of free speech (since speech on commercial radio is ANYTHING but free...and controlled by those with big money), it's a matter of guilt by association. Keeping Rush on that local station...especially if Rush doesn't face any serious prosecution for his illegal drug buying, trivializes the seriousness of his crime and drug abuse.

Remember how Clinton's lies about sex would destroy the entire judicial system if he wasn't impeached?

I know there are those who keep lists here of Rush sponsors...and now would be a good time to email those folks and "say hello"...and also to note local advertisers on your station (that aren't on the entire network but in many cases pay higher local rates to be on Rush's show). A good time to listen for these local commercials are near the top and bottom of the hours (around local news/weather).

Also, a nicely-worded letter in the station's public inspection file about your displeasure of YOUR local station (remember, YOU own the airwaves, not them) airing this program and to please put this letter in the Public Inspection file. By law the station must do so...and can be used by any party that wants to challenge the station's license.

Hopefully the hypocrisy of Dittoboy will lead thousands to search for a new pied piper and the show's ratings and will fade, but this won't happen for months. A boycott means loss of revenues now, and that's the only language Repugnicans understand.

1. Problem with that - some Talk Radio Stations are mixed
Such as WNJO carries Rush and Randi Rhodes. I realize that some Talk radio is "All Right Wing", but some arent'.

3. Mixed, But
Radio stations sell advertising by the show or they will sell "ROS" or Run Of Schedule...the mixed ones you refer to.

There's a way to seperate the two...take a couple days and note the sponsors on both shows...then compare the two...or find a third show on the station and add that to the list. Not only will you find whose plunking money specifically on Rush (in many markets it's banks and financial brokers) but on Randi as well...and send those advertisers a thank-you note and how you appreciate their supporting her show (a purchase might not be a bad thing, too)

2. Why NOW?
I always have and have always e-mailed a non-hostile letter to the other personalities broadcasting through the same station why I choose to go with NPR rather than "Clear Channel" Hate Radio.

I figure maybe one of these days, Clear Channel will either pay attention to the audience or decide to buy out the RIAA to boost their revenue projections.

4. While There's A Flux
Don...it boils down to the Benjamins. Rush's real major success...the one that kept him on for years, was the ability to draw revenue for Premeire and its affiliates. Rush is not on during a drive-time and got on many stations since he was free/cheap programming...and there was a revenue stream that has kept it going...not ratings. That's why now is the time to let advertisers know there are those out there watching and ready to call them on their support of the show.

I listen to many sources...BBC, NPR, APR...TV and all...I rarely would listen to Rush, unless stuck in the car and the local NPR station was begging for more money. But public radio is off the ratings radar (they are not counted by Aribtron), so millions of listeners (just like voters) are never counted.

Take it from my past experience on both sides...a well-worded, "pithy" letter to a station or advertiser can get some very interesting restults. For an example, see what TBTM has been doing...they pretty much cleared out Rush's website.

5. Do any of us really listen to AM anyway?
In Baltimore (despite the fact that it's a Democratic city in a Democratic state) the AM airwaves are 100% conservative.

I could say I'm boycotting, but in fact, I never listen to them anyway unless maybe once a year if there is a blizzard and the TV power goes out.

6. Actually, I Listen To AM
In spite of the fact that Austin is a rather liberal town (by Texas standards) the AM talk station is pretty much conservo-creep.

I refuse to listen to Rush. I used to...just to know what the other side was up to, and how they were spinning things, but being as I work second shift...Rush was on while I was at my desk...and I couldn't take listening to him without occasionally screaming at the radio, or my head would explode!! Well, can't do that at work, so no more Rush.

After Rush, we get a local guy I enjoy. He's Libertarian, I don't agree with him about a lot of stuff, but he's funny. Then we get an hour of sports stuff.

Then we used to get Neal Boortz, who I'd listen to, not that I agreed with a lot of his stuff, wither, but at least he was an equal-opportunity offender...he'd slap down the Repukes and Christian
Coalition types once in a while.

Now, they moved the schedule so Clark Howard is on during that time slot, and he's allright...he's just all about money. And I pick up a few good tips about how not to get ripped off.

'Course, I wouldn't want the radio station to know this, but I keep a cassette in my radio, and every time they go to commerials, I put the tape on for about 5 minutes until commercials are over. I won't listen to commercials...being the anti-capitalist I am, I think commercials are all dishonest and subversive.

7. His Substitute Hosts Are UnLISTENable-to
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 02:22 PM by UTUSN
The Roger HEDGECOCK and Walter WILLIAMS dudes. To the eternal question, "Why listen to (LIMBO/Faux)------for whatever reason, I can monitor LIMBO, HUME, and O'REILLY (hoping for an O'REILLY meltdown) but absolutely canNOT "take" HANNITY, NORTH, LIDDY, and the rest. Repeating a prediction: O'REILLY will be the main beneficiary of LIMBOsevic's career-demise.
