Collaborative web-based word-processor
This looks really cool - a website where multiple users can work on a single document together. I haven't tried it out yet, but this software could be a great way for us harness different people's skills and work together to hammer out articles or position papers on important topics.

http://3d17.org/

People often talk to communities, but how do communities talk back? 3D17.org aims to answer that question by allowing a large number of people to collaboratively create some text, be it a letter, fax, or email. Have you ever thought what kind of letter the combined intelligence of 1,000 people might produce to support your opinion? 3D17 will answer that question.

1. Create a new document by clicking on New in the menu to the left.

2. Choose a short title for the document (this will appear in its web address), a proper title, and some initial text.

3. Once you have created the story you will be able to refer other people to it.

4. Refer others in your group to this URL where they can view the document you just created.

5. Let them make amendments which they can then vote on to determine which make it into the document.

Check it out at:

2. just checked 'em both out
I would agree--wiki is better.

What a fascinating idea. I think I'll be using this for a class project. My class is now researching the topic of "constructive criticism." Each person has to find an article. While they are to deliver a three-minute speech on their article, I think I will also have them contribute to a class knowledge base or document, using Wiki.

Thanks for posting this!

3. Yeah, I kind of agree wiki is better too
Either way, they're both similar, and great ideas. Wiki seems to have been around longer, and it apparently does the same thing (but I don't know if it can be set up to require a "login").
