Me-Thinks if you were getting shot at or weaving from a landmind, you'd crash too....

And I also think this is hostile rather than non-hostile!

1. Tough to keep your eyes on the road
when you're looking for people who are trying to kill you at the same time.

But they love us there...we're LIBERATORS dontcha know?

2. Another possibility
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 07:54 AM by sinookas
is that we have a lot of young turks over there from lower socio-economic levels who are getting a chance to pop some wheelies and burn some donuts off in a HUMMER. Now, the reason, I say this is that before hostilities ever started over there, a young person of that description from near here, died in Kuwait doing exactly that. I don't mean it as a put-down at all. They are hot, they are bored, yes probably at times they are bored, not many girls around, no tv to watch, no movies to go to, etc, so they take the Hummer out into the sand to do some fancy off-roading, and wahlah, they do a rollover in it....

Or it could be exactly as you said trumad.

4. low socio-economic status?
Well, maybe, and certainly the army promotes enlistment as a way to get ahead (with the rising cost of college and declining financial aid - well, who can blame them). Around here though, I find kids in pickup trucks tend to stop for pedestrians, while the "preppies" in their expensive cars are the arrogant ones. ...just an observation from walking about my town in Montana.

10. Have you thought it is more "acceptable" to die in a crash?
What with the number of troops being killed by attack, maybe UNKA SAM has decided it would be better for the war effort if these brave young men died in vehicle accidents instead of at the hands of people trying to drive invaders out of their country.

More fatal bombing, fires northern Iraq
Two employees of the Northern Oil Co (NOC) have been killed and four seriously wounded in a roadside bombing in northern Iraq, the NOC director general said.
Also near Kirkuk, three rocket-propelled grenades were fired on a US military convoy outside the town of Huweija, 50 kilometres west of Kirkuk, witnesses said.
"Unknown assailants fired three RPGs hitting a Humvee and an armoured vehicle, and the armoured vehicle then fell into the Nahr Uh-Zaym river," said Ahmer Hassan.

If the convoy is attacked and the Humvee
hits a canal for whatever reason
deaths resulting are labeled
accidental.

9. Also, a Vietnam vet wrote a letter to Buzzflash a while back
explaining how drownings and other accidents are far more likely to happen in war zones than in normal situations, meaning a lot or most of the accidents would not have happened to these people if they were not in a dangerous war zone. He explained it really well.

Most of us have never been anywhere near a war zone and have no understanding of what happens there, so there should be news that explains what has really happened in these accidents. I know, fat chance!

11. Wait until they start operating the Strykers... They are designed
for accidents and can fire only to the front and back (not sideways).

12. Accident sounds better back home.
They really have not wanted to admit the number of casualties we've had over there and in Afganistan. You will see a BUNCH of accidents and training crashes in the next few months.

They have to account for all of those kids somehow, and an accident plays better back home.
