Dick Durban on C-SPAN2 - Dick, I have a message.

You were talking about the $87 billion and the $20 billion for rebuilding Iraq, etc. etc.

Dick - you are definitely one of the good guys. But you sounded like you were talking to the Rotary Club about doing a better job decorating your downtown shopping district for the holidays.

I know you mean well. And your words were oh so true.

But to any sheeple out there who may have been listening - you know, those are the 20% of voters who are relatively disengaged from the political process, the 20% who will probably decide the next election - you sounded like a whimp, whining about the big guys who won't let you play with the ball.

This is serious. This RW takeover of our values and institutions is one of the greatest crises ever in America's relatively short experiment with democracy. And we are living this crisis. It is our crisis to solve or pass.

Either convey the urgency and the emotional impact of what is going on here - or let others speak who can get that urgent message across - with all the appropriate emotional wrapping it deserves.

Please, get in their face. Call them out for the liars they are. Show them up for destroying our American values. For being the greedy selfish bastards they are - who care nothing about America or it's fighting men and women overseas - just the money they can stuff into their bank accounts.

With respect, msmcghee

But when our Dem pols speak on a national forum - they must always realize that this is theater. And actors on-stage must dramatize their dialogue and their body language - if they hope to convey a message to the audience.

Every appearance will convey a message. The important message rides along below the actual dialogue. It will either be "this person really believes what they say and is passionate about it" or "this person doesn't believe what they say or doesn't really care so much about what they are saying". There's no neutral.

This emotional package conveys context and validity and says much about the person speaking and their cause. The pukes have this down. Rove is a master at this symbolic communication. They never waste an opportunity to rage and hurl their indignation at every liberal or "Democrat" politician. That all adds up over the years. We have a big hole to dig out of.

If they don't convey the first message they will convey the second by default. Every opportunity in front of an audiance is an opportunity to bring our message home.

Many Americans think we Dems are weak and not-capable of fighting for what we believe in - much less defending our nation.

Dick Durban just affirmed that message.

5. in case Durbin doesn't read DU
put this well-thought out message in a letter to his office.

He is capable of showing fire, and he's effective when he does it, so maybe he'll take your advice.

I disagee with one phrase, "let others speak." No matter if you don't like what Durbin says, he's not preventing anyone else from speaking.
