Intriguing comment on a new ABC news poll coming out tonight
ABC News the Note had this blurb in its column today.

...See Gallup today, which says "President Bush's job approval rating is running roughly five points higher than last month, 56% now approve of the president's job performance (and/but there is a fascinating ABC News/Washington Post poll coming out tonight...)

That comment about the ABC News poll sounds very intriguing. I guess we will have to wait until tonight on ABC News with Peter Jennings to see what is so "fascinating" about it and if Bush is rebounding or falling off in there new poll.

2. 51 to 53% is the likely ABC poll number - is my best guess
just about all the polls have been stable at 50% or so for the past 2 weeks.

3. Heard on CNN
that the reason the poll numbers went from 50% to 56% is due to the Stock market having it's best week this year. The rich made more money so they influenced the poll.

7. something tells me...the treasury and the PPT helped out the
market...many times during it's run it seemed ready to collapse only to have huge S&P futures buying and subsequent rally....

This is not news....they just don't like to talk about how the market is helped.

Furthermore...the state of pensions would be a TOTAL DISASTER if the market did not come back somewhat this year.

My bet is it will have some "help" through the elections next year.

12. Hedges Are Bailing After Last Week Too
Hedge fund managers are bailing on short positions which is also helping to push the market up.

Like so much else, it's artificial inflation of market value.

4. I read the Note this morning, too
and that lead pissed me off. There is no conceivable reason for his numbers to go, but they seem to be - and we have every reason to expect them to go down, and ABC leaves us hanging. I expect info from the Note, not blatant self-promotion. I know, naive, ain't I?

5. This is cruel
Leaving us hanging like this. But instead of saying and/but why wouldnt they just say our polling confirms this rise in his numbers. The but seems to say they have something different. But Wash post and gallup always poll higher than most polls.

6. the previous ABC/Post poll had Bush at 54/44 postive
my guess is that it will have him below 50%--we'll see tonight.

9. They are the highest

This might be wishful thinking on my part, but it seems strange for ABC Note to publicize a Gallup poll if their poll was showing the same thing. I'm under the impression the ABC poll will contradict that, likely with Bush's numbers down from their last poll. If ABC has Bush at 51 or 52, that's really bad for Chimpy, because their polls are usually 5 points higher than most others.

Lancaster city to be exact. Where do you live in York County? My parents have a cottage on the Susquehanna River in Hellam Township, outside Wrightsville. :)

17. Cool
I live in Dover PA, about 20-30 minutes away from Hellam. My baseball team plays in Hellam twice a year and we go water skying in the Susquehanna River, also I have an aunt who lives down by the river.

Actually Lancaster city, too.

What do you think of Patrick Egan's proposal to buy the Bare building? I'm hoping that city council votes to accept it tonight.

8. Thanks for the post BUT this "Note" is written in such a pseudo-
breezy style, I can't make heads or tails out of it.

Write in the English language, for heaven's sake . . .

"Anon he finds him, striking too short at Greeks
His antique sword, rebellious to his arm, lies where it falls,
Repugnant to command.
Unequal matched, Pyrrhus at Priam drives, in his rage strikes wide,
But with the whiff and wind of his fell sword, the unnerved father falls . . . "

There, that's style, my friends . . .

16. I just read that note
and this graph leaves me with the impression his numbers are not going down in the ABC poll:

"1. Note when the president's poll numbers go up (since we go straight to chicken little mode when they go down). See Gallup today, which says "President Bush's job approval rating (is) running roughly five points higher than last month. Fifty-six percent now approve of the overall job he is doing." LINK (And/but there is a there's a fascinating ABC News/ Washington Post poll coming out tonight … )"

20. Poll Numbers
Keep in mind these poll numbers are a result of the Democratic candidates daily scolding Bush while he has yet to really kick off his campaign rhetoric wise, which makes sense for him to wait until our Party has a nominee.

Poll numbers this early really don't hold any meaning. People vote their wallets, and next year if things improve or are looking up and if most people feel secure, then Bush will be tough to beat, and he'll have coattails, too. This is an uphill battle.
