Max Cleland on C-SPAN: Love Him, Wish He Was Still My Senator!

Listening to Max Cleland was a vastly different experience from listening to many of the guests on Washington Journal. Max is an intelligent guy and I'm delighted he's on the committee investigating 9-11.

I loved it when Max talked about Cheney and Wolfowitz putting the plan together in 1992!!! He mentioned this twice!!! I only wish he had mentioned PNAC specifically and talked about it.

Cleland also said we ought to be building roads, schools, etc., here in our country, not in Iraq, talked about what patriotism is (and is not), the importance of having a president who knows how to fight terrorism (he is supporting Kerry, believing that experience fighting guerillas in Viet Nam is relevant to this battle against terrorism.)

Max thinks we need to get serious about fighting Al Quaeda, that we should have seen an attack like 9-11 coming from them. ("They tried to blow up the World Trade Center once before. Duh!") He said we should either put 4 or 5 divisions in Iraq, (which Rumsfeld won't do) and do it right, or get out now. And right at the end he talked about how a draft will be needed if certain things don't happen soon.

I think the transcript of his part of the show will be worth reading so check it out later on C-SPAN's site. I hope we'll see Max working in a new Democratic administration in 2005.

1. he was GREAT
talking fast enough to get as much as he can in, but clearly to make people understand. he just laid it all out there. and i think you can actually watch it on the cspan website so i recommend those who didn't see it to watch if they can. cspan might rerun it on tv also later sometime.

5. He apparently isn't interested, perhaps because he has

campaign debts (don't know that for a fact but candidates usually do), perhaps because he knows Bush* can come down here five times again and talk up the Repuke, perhaps because he knows the new voting machines are fixed. Take your pick of reasons! Chambliss is a slimeball and ran tv ads comparing Max to Saddam and Osama -- and Bush* supported that dirty tactic by coming down here five times AND calling in his daddy, his wife, his undisclosed-location Dick, to campaign against Max.

4. Inspirational
I just called Zell Miller's office. His lackey answering the phone claims Miller hasn't decided yet how how to vote on the 87 1/2 billion. I think Miller's office needs some more calls-in Washington. They never even answered their phone in Georgia.

Max was a 100% better senator.

12. 1 (800) 839 - 5276 - TOLL FREE Capitol Hill Switchboard.
You can call Zell Miller's office FOR FREE, or anybody else's office in the House and/or Senate. They'll transfer you just for the asking. And, again, IT'S FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call them and demand that no more be spent on Iraq. No 87 billion, NOTHING!

AND DEMAND A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR FOR "TRAITOR-GATE"!!!!!!!

I'd especially call rethugs offices. Call Olympia Snowe and Lincoln Chafee and Susan Collins - they're so-called moderates, there's a better chance they might be swayed. Call Jim Jeffords' office - he went from rethug to Independent. In fact, one of his staffers told me this morning (when I called there, using the toll free number) that he thought once some of this Iraq stuff got dealt with, there would probably be more calls for an independent investigation of "Traitor-gate." I said I hope that's correct.

PLEASE, GUYS! If the faucet's to keep drip-drip-dripping, we have to help guard the spigot, so the rethugs can't reach it to turn it off!!

8. It didn't take me long to figure out why everyone is
high on Max. I was hoping someone would ask him if he thought
bbv had anything to do with his loss. I hope he stays in the
spotlight.

9. Agreed. Max Cleland was
excellent this morning. He was angry, too. One thing he said that really stood out for me was when he said this administration wants to stay in Iraq because they want to have bases there so they can attack Iran and Syria. Max really told it like to was this morning.

11. I think Max Cleland is teaching a course at American University in DC
And I'd bet he would be greatly encouraged to hear from fans, DUers or otherwise. The profile they did of him in the Washington Post recently left me with the impression that he was still quite devastated by what the ruthless GOP did to him in the election. If I find a link or address for Max, I'll pass it on.

13. The anger was really polarized on this segment. Only two or three
pro-Bush this morning when I listened.

14. Well, I guess you could reach Max at American U.
I looked for an address or e-mail but didn't get one. He is, however, listed under faculty at the AU website.

A good guy!
