My stay in Oneonta

Subject: My stay in Oneonta

Dear Friends

I had a pretty rotten day yesterday.

I was traveling all day, which is not unusual, but I saw all these lies going around about my book and my book beffore I left Dallas and that upset me.

I spoke in Oneonta, NY last night to over 600 people. The "huge" counter protest they were expecting never materialized and the crowd was warm and supportive.

But when I read their paper The Daily Star this morning, it made all the sacrifices worthwhile and it caused me to refocus on why I am doing what I am doing:

Keshia Robinson, 18, said she has talked to recruiters and was leaning toward joining the military.
That was until she heard Cindy Sheeha speak Thursday night at the State University College at Oneonta.
"I'm definitely not going now," Robinson said. Sheehan's speech was "very moving" she said.

My friends, this is what it is all about. Potentially saving lives.
Fuck everyone else who is so supportive of the war, but who cowardly hide behind their flags and their false patriotism.

Like the Jesse Dyen song says: "if you're so gung-ho, why don't you just go."

Anyway....thought I would share a positive experience with you all.
Peace and lots of love!!!

Cindy

2. I know what you mean
Once upon a time, Cindy's deeds and acts were highly regarded. Now she's just another "has been", replaced by the latest trendy issue.

5. One of my daughters
told me that her teacher went to see Cindy last night. My daughter wondered why we didn't go. I'm not sure about the "has been" business. If I read the local paper, or listened to the radio, I'd have known. But being retired and all .... well, I'm reduced to a "has been" myself! (grin) 600 is a good crowd for Oneonta.

7. not sure about the "has been" business
What I mean by that is this.

Look at the number of replies this first-hand news from Cindy has received.

DU has moved on to new issues. Cindy is in the past. But I won't forget what she has done and is doing.

8. I realize that ....
and of course you are right. It's an important point: we (the public) let the national media's "short shelf life" of stories dictate how long we stick with them. There were many people who thought, for example, that because the Plame story wasn't being reported on the cable stations, it had lost significance.

My response was more of a failed attempt at tongue-in-cheek humor, combined with a gentle kick in the behind directed at myself for missing something I would have really enjoyed. And my daughter will not soon allow me to forget it -- no short shelf life with her.

3. That's great...
I've got a lot of wonderful memories of Oneonta.....spent a great deal of time there 68-71. My wife graduated in '71....we were married in 6/71 and lived on Cozy Ave.

4. near the corner of Comfey St. ??
this war is killing enlistments ... in one way, that's not what the country really needs ...

but young people should be told the truth before they're forced to learn the horrors of war the hard way ...

Sheehan did that young woman a really big favor ...
