two sisterss and my ma, and pa was the real spiritual and a dem. but i have one sister, otherwise truly brilliant, who is adamantly pro-*. i work for a bunch of doctors who are all pugnicans. so they have a type of brain material but obviously not the big picture, common sense type.

it will drop further still. I refuse to believe that 34% is the accurate percentage of "morans" in this country. I remember when it was supposed to be 50%, and it fell. Many said it would bottom out at 38%, and yet, here we are, discussing 34. My belief is that it is 22% that could watch him eat a baby, and still lick his blood soiled boots.

Every time this subject comes up, i.e., "how the fuck can this happen?," I tell people to read The True Believer by Eric Hoffer. Old book about Nazis, religious freaks, etc., and it's still true today.

According to Hoffer, the bottom enders believe that their lives are worthless, and can only be redeemed by a holy cause, be that cause religious or political. Some truth in that.

I don't know about those with a higher IQ (or whether IQ really measures anything useful) but I think a lot of the lower and some of the middle level IQ people have trouble dealing with complexity. That is why they gravitate towards black and white answers and absolute truths i.e. religion. So when they 'choose' a candidate or political party they back it 100%, don't question anything and reject any idea that doesn't fit into there narrow absolutist point of view. To them there are no gray areas only black to their white, wrong to there right. Since they can't be wrong then any candidate, president, etc. that they back must always be right no matter what they do.

Finally, I think some people are afraid and want to align themselves with power. Even if they're afraid of poverty or the government, they feel safer choosing sides with CEOs and the police and military -- identification with the aggressor, like frightened children who respond to a barking dog by barking in return.
