A hypothetical question to those knowledgeable in criminal law
Let's just say an angry American walks into a voting place with a baseball bat and starts pounding on all the Diebold machines until he is restrained. He then allows himself to be arrested without resisting.

What kind of charges would this person face? I'm guessing it would be destruction of federal property because even though they are Diebold machines, they've been purchased by the feds.

What would the maximum penalty be for such an offense?

1. Well......
Keep in mind that if you did it during an election, it would cause problems.

Also keep in mind, those machines are stored off-site in some warehouse in-between elections, and are much more vulnerable there.

Not that I am suggesting anything.

I am just sayin'.

2. You like standing, primarily, right?
Maybe you can get one of those rubber rings to sit on in the Fed Pen.

4. They have been purchased by the county

or at least the State. The feds don't actually own the machines.

Would probably depend on the value of the hardware.

Then there is interfering with a polling place ... probably various charges there.

just a ballpark figure, I'd say: life.

Hey, I haven't practiced law in 20 years, so ...

Sounds like you are looking to get a federal rap ... you'll probably have to wait for the electoral college to meet and go in and bust up their meeting with a baseball bat.

5. BushCo would consider it an act of Terrorism and you
would be considered an enemy combatant - never to be heard from again :hi:

I don't know, I'm not a lawyer.
