Day 5. December 2, 2005. BRING THEM HOME!! your ideas please
We must bring our troops back now. I am going to keep this up, and I'm curious what each of you will do or can do on this. Email your local newspaper every day?

Email or call your congressman every day?

WE NEED A DRUM BEAT OF PEACE for each of us to take part in. Be the grass roots of support that holds up the efforts and courage of our Dem leaders.

WE MUST BURN the GOP's messaging to the ground. WE DON"T WANT THIS WAR and the objectives are complete. BRING THEM HOME.

1. Little Green Army Men Campaign
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5488085

"Woman buys little green Army soldiers and writes "bring me home" on them.. Just got this in my e-mail - what a great anti-war action!

I heard on NPR last night -

Short mention of a woman who buys the little green Army men toy soldiers and writes on them or puts a sticker on the bottom that says
"Bring Me Home"and then she leaves them in public places."

-----
I like this as a way of involving more citizens who may feel motivated to make even more phone calls, and write even more letters.

5. yes. I love it. I heard this on the radio but don't know if it was
on Ed Schultz or NPR or what. I was amazed to hear about this woman. Another woman in California was planning on buying plastic soldiers and doing the same thing.

KEEP THE SURGE growing.

8. This is excellent.
I can't explain the impact this type of action, throughout our land would have, except to say, 'Elonor Roosevelt in reverse!'. God Bless you all.

2. the logic of keeping US troops in Iraq escapes me . . .
if the invasion itself was illegal and based on lies (which it was), then it follows that any resulting occupation is also illegal and based on lies . . .

11. exactly. U.S. and other nations can deal with aftermath ONCE the troops
are gone. First, end illegal occupation. Then, deal with other nations to keep the new Iraq from devolving into civil war.

3. This last week my husband letter to the editor in our local
paper was printed. I wrote one last night and the paper called this morning for release, so it will be printed in the next week. I am not sure how your papers guidelines are, but our paper only allows one article per month per person. My husband has another one that will be printed next month. The paper confirmed it.

4. that is terrific. my paper--Oregonian--shows count of all the letters
of hot issues like war in Iraq. So...even the ones that don't get printed will reflect the tone of people's feelings on issues. I am going to try getting my letters published.

I will be SO CURIOUS to see how we bring forward the GATHERING STORM of discontent. Please tell me your stories. I will be putting together more info on how we can have massive DAILY response on this issue.

CONGRATULATIONS on getting your letter published.

6. Hubby wrote the one on the Patriot act,
the other one is about about the war and Murtha. Mine is about the economy, war and the disgrace of our republican administration.

Here is the one that went to print.

After the 911 attack on our country we were in need of an overhaul on our intelligence when dealing with terrorist. Then our government came up with the Patriot Act. Recently abuses have come to light demonstrating misuse of the power given to these agencies. Tens of thousands of ordinary Americans are being investigated even when no link to terrorism is found. We as a nation need to readdress the powers that are being given to these agencies to insure that an innocent person’s privacy is being protected. The Patriot Act is up for renewal and expansions on this act including a ten year extension of the act are being discussed in Washington. Please speak out to your Senators and Congressman and ask them to protect your right to privacy.

10. here's one I sent to my local paper. we'll see if it gets printed
Sunday editorial page would be great, but I think it's too late for that.

President Bush and his proxies are in full campaign mode trying to deceive us once again about what is going on in Iraq and what their future plans for Iraq really are. I believe both the US and Iraqi citizens have made quite clear that we do not want the US military occupying Iraq. We?ve lost too many young men and women in a war of choice based on false intelligence and hype. My question to Bush and his administration is why removing our troops from the streets of Iraqi cities would make the situation worse. As an informed US citizen, I am demanding of our public servants that they support our troops by bringing them home.

12. I am sure it will get printed.
We have submitted 3 letters and all of them are going to print. You have posted a wonderful letter. Our paper only allows 150 words. It is hard to get your point across with such a small amount of words.

Please just keep nailing them. We will do the same.:bounce:

13. yes. I hope it does. I just counted...should be in the 100 word range
so hopefully they don't say it's too wordy. ANyway, I've got some brand new ideas for even more pervasively getting our message out in a CONSISTENT and daily way across the country. It will be in a new post.

Let's just keep attacking at the ground level and ask our friends and neighbors to do likewise.

7. love the plastic soldier idea
another suggestion in addition to the toy soldiers: if you can find toy donkeys or elephants or little men/women in business attire

tack the name of your senator or representative to it with the phrase "throw 'em out"

9. I liked what some did for Murtha re: purple hearts, etc.
Now, I cannot encourage this because I've never served in the military and one cannot take lightly the medals one earns while serving. However, some veterans who've received purple hearts and bronze stars, etc. have been sending their medals to their congeressperson saying...."give these to a soldier wounded in Iraq who is not being counted as a combat wounded soldier because they were not injured with enemy ordnance or munitions, etc."

How powerful that is if a soldier or veteran DOES feel strongly enough about it that their representative or Senator would now receive their MEDALS saying "I paid a price for my country....I demand answers about this conflict."

Whatever we can do.....it must be a gathering storm.....a consistent heart beat from the AMerican people saying:

bum-bum....NO MORE WAR....bum-bum......BRING THEM HOME...bum-bum....STOP THE KILLING....bum-bum
