Barack Obama isn't black?
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 06:11 PM by KingFlorez
Gee, I could have sworn he was. I was over at FreakRepublic and saw this post in a thread about Michael Steele. I swear these people are a bunch of dumbasses:

To: Pop Fly

Steele is the democrats biggest nightmare. The only black senator in the country and he's a republican. Obamas mother is white, but the media somehow forgets that.

1. Most black people aren't.
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 06:17 PM by ClassWarrior
They're usually a shade of brown. And white people are usually a shade of tan. Funny, innit?

NGU.

8. I'm not white. I'm sort of beigey.
I hate that question: what race are you? A color or an ethnicity or a language or a religion?

16. I'm pink
Really, really pink. The kind of pink that turns bright red--and painful--in sunlight. I'm a pale pink, but I am definitely pink.

And guess where I got the picture from? theafrican.com So obviously they think he is. I think Obama is way better than Steele anyways. He's more articulate and has that charsima thing going on.

Black father white mother. Just another mutt in the puppy pound. Like the rest of us, he's of the american persuasion.

He's the Lt. Governor of Maryland.

5. If Obama considers himself to be Black he has a right to
And I think he does considers himself to be Black. Just because he is technically mixed race, doesn't mean he can't identify more with one race than another.

6. In this country it's always been simple
one drop of 'black blood' makes you black. End of enquiry.

20. True, but....
As a mixed race person, there also has to be taken into account what said person chooses to identify with.

There's this tricky tightrope of those who identify you, and what you identify yourself as. You are always aware of it and that will never change.

That said, if Obama identifies as black (and I think he does), that's his right and perrogative. If Tiger Woods identifies as mixed race, that's his perrogative too. Me personally, regardless of what OTHER PEOPLE decide to identify me as, I don't like the idea of paying homage to one bloodline and ignoring another bloodline out of someone else's discomfort with mixed race people or out of political demographic expediency.

27. The thing is that the same people who are now trying to
deny that Obama is black (or black enough, more likely) are the very same ones who would deny him (or you) the right to identify with white heritage under other circumstances. That 'touch of the tar brush', as they say here in Charleston.

9. I'd say at least 50 percent of American blacks
have a white great great great grandfather.

Were'nt they "doing us a favor" by "purifying" the race?

It wasn't the white women doing all the raping.

19. Mfume would probably lose...
Alot of skeletons in his closet...

He won't beat Ben Cardin in the primary, and I predict Cardin will beat Steele handily...

Steele is an empty suit and sounds moronic in debate. Cardin is a quietly competent COngressman much in the Paul Sarbanes mold!

And Obama isn't black? What a dumbass. And isn't Steele a state attorney general? I didn't know he was now a Senator.

Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 07:49 PM by rucky
gee, I'm having nightmares that "the blacks" will base their vote on the race of a candidate - regardless of their party and ideology.

they are so damn cynical to think that voters are that dumb. Then again, that is how they vote - all sizzle and no steak.

On edit: Yeah, Alan Keyes went over real well in IL> heh.

22. Obama is Cross Racial - Self Identifies as BLACK
Just remember that freepards are stupid, ignorant racists demogoues.

People of color, who are mixed race, are the race they self identify as. Because it's not just about how much melatonin a person is born with, it's about culture and ethnic identity, just as white supremacy is about cultural and ethnic superiority.

25. Thanks to slave masters and the like, a lot of African-Americans have
some white ancestry.

Besides which, this country has traditionally classified anyone who has any African ancestry at all as "black."

Not everyone knows that the plaintiff in Plessy vs. Ferguson, the nineteenth century Supreme Court case that legalized segregation, was what was then called an "octoroon," someone with one black and seven white great-grandparents.
