2. I disagree
Stewart is a bit more subtle. Colbert seems obnoxious in comparison. If I don't feel I have time for both, I choose Stewart.

3. Colbert is doing more acting
and his "obnoxious" persona is based on making fun of the right wing blowhards such as Hannity and O'Reilly. I love them both.

9. Same with me. I haven't warmed up to
Colbert's show yet. Though I am happy for him. I always liked him on TDS. And I'm glad he's building a following.
But one doesn't have to be "better" than the other.
We're damn lucky to have them both.
Hey, The Comedy Channel could still be showing the amazingly inane Colin Quinn.

18. Good point about Colin Quinn
I could not reach for the remote quick enough to mute that jackass, but now I look forward to another great half hour of brilliant satire. Two big thumbs up for both.:thumbsup:

20. HaHa me too.
I would grab the remote the minute the moment of Zen started and I never, ever even heard the closing music. I could not tolerate even the sound of Quinn's voice. Then there was Adam Corolla, same thing for me.

I adore them both. I am really loving Cobert and I still really love Jon Stewart. Both different, both hysterically funny and clever. What a lovely way to end the day.

5. I like them both. I think TDS/Jon Stewart are positioning for Network
think about it....they could go on ABC against Leno and Letterman once the new Nightline format fails.

So....they're testing his more mainstream approach out. Letterman definitely got less cutting edge when he went from NBC at 12:30 up to CBS 11:30

25. Remember when Politically Incorrect went from CC to Network?
Bill got into trouble. He had no freedom of speech. His show suffered and he got in big trouble.
I hope both of these guys learned that lesson and never go to the networks.

16. Working out the kinks
I always loved Colbert's reports best on the Daily Show, but he seemed to need Stewart as a straight man foil.

He missed this the first month or so. But something has kicked in and the show is getting stronger every day.

Colbert has ratcheted up the obnoxious persona and is managing to stay in character in interviews without it being awkward for the interviewee.

Colbert's show makes explicit how sick the current news media is by simply aping its moves, exposing the formula, the paternalistic gestures, the bad faith arguments.

I found his show boring and predictable, with very few real laughs. I quit watching it. I'm glad you enjoy it, though. Different people, different tastes.

27. They are two different animals. Colbert stays in character the whole
show - and it takes a bit to get used to it. Jon Stewart plays himself whatching the news, and then his underlings go out and remake it. Different paces. I think Stewart is still easier to relate too. Colbert easier to laugh at constantly - less likeable. He gets to play over the top the whole night.

Both can bomb. It takes quite a lot to be funny like that most of the time - which they are.

Amazing really. Two new forms of TV comedy. Both of them such a relief from the regular news.

29. NO!.........YES!
When you've been watching the Daily Show since it's very first day, it's hard to be partial.

But Colbert is one hell of a guy.

Tossup? Can't they both be GREAT? Yes. They're equal. Now we can all get along. Haha.

32. yin and yang
I love them both and they're both necessary.

Well, no, that's not what I really think. I couldn't have made it through the past few years without watching Jon... watching his show is so gratifying, a big "YES! Thank God someone on TV is saying this!" Stephen is wonderfully biting and funny, but since he's copying O'Reilly, watching him doesn't feed my soul that same way. And his TV persona isn't as appealing as Jon's, 'cause it's not meant to be.

But still... yin and yang, basically.

While Colbert is quite funny, by the middle of his show, I have lost interest (but don't know why exactly).
