5. The amazing thing is, they offer distance learning.
What do they do, send Iranian-style religious police around to make sure one of their online students isn't reading porn while waiting for the exam to load?!

Oh yes, here's their address, from their website:

Liberty University®
1971 University Boulevard, Lynchburg, Virginia 24502
434-582-2000

Note the (R). Funny, for some reason, my alma mater never, ever refers to itself as Yale University(R)...

11. Here's another one
There must have been some legal action invovled with this one:
In Residence Halls 1 through 19, furniture and personal belongings must be kept at least 48 inches from the front of the air conditioning units so that airflow is not restricted. Failure to do so could result in reprimands or a fine of $60 if found by any building maintenance staff attempting to service the unit. Any questions regarding residence room furnishings should be addressed to the Resident Director.

Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 08:58 PM by DemGirl7
Every time I hear the words "Liberty University" I get chills that go down my back.I find the concept of Falwell actually having his own university kind of odd, since he himself is dumb illiterate asshole who's IQ is lower than a goldfish's.

14. Video games: sex and drugs are not OK but violence is.
Video Games
The playing of video games that are “A” and “RP” -rated is not permitted, and is a reprimandable offense. The playing of “EC”, “E”, and “T”-rated games are permitted but should be played with discretion. Any “M” -rated games with descriptors indicating any sexual content, alcohol/drug content, or strong language are not permitted, and is a reprimandable offense. “M” -rated games depicting violence will be at the discretion of Resident Directors. Liberty University refers to the Bible for all moral standards.

NOTE: Many games portray realistic military operations and while they contain violence descriptors, they do not contain any reference to sexual themes, drug/alcohol use, and/or strong language. Games that contain criminal violence not suitable for playing on campus are often paired with descriptors such as strong sexual themes, strong language, drug use, etc.

17. Truly fascinating
At the "Womens' Dress" link, it gives another link to "Uncovering the Truth About Modest," which, I presume, Falwell wishes to use as a guide to modesty.

The author rails on about harlots, and dressing "of the world," and all the expected stuff, but there's a brilliant, very telling paragraph, toward the end:

"The Other Extreme

I think it is important to make it clear that I don't think pretty clothes or a little bit of make-up is wrong. In fact, I don't necessarily think that the most godly way to dress is in a bland and unattractive manner. To be quite honest with you, I have seen many people go to the other extreme and try to draw attention to themselves by being untidy, unclean, and uncaring about themselves. They try to prove to others that they are spiritual because of their lack of concern about the way that they look This too can be another form of pride and self-righteousness-and I believe it is all equally grievous to the Lord. He wants us to find a balance and seek to glorify Him in everything we do. Humility and moderation are principles that the Bible clearly teaches."

This, to me, is fascinating, because it's obvious that the goal isn't (as the author defensively states) to transform but to conform, to the traditional, patriarchal, arbitrary constructs of those who hearken for that imaginary past -- full of fascists. God for-fucking-bid, that you should ACTUALLY dedicate your life to Christ and promote the abolition of materiality. You can wear "just enough make-up" to be "socially acceptable," but don't take it too far. What the FUCK would Jesus care? Their constructed, schizo god is a motherfucking joke.

I would appreciate if any numbnut lurking freep-believers are lurking, that they register, and PM me, and explain to me how all of this makes any sense. They ask the males to not wear their hair below their ears, when the Bible clearly states otherwise.

These people are fucking nuts. If I could thank "god" for one thing, it would be that he gave me the brain cells to not succumb to their bland, stifiling box.
