either live like Jesus or stop using his name and pretending
this is aimed at bush's conservative christian loony base. stop blaspheming the name of christ already o.k.? either help the poor, or fuck the poor, make up your minds. either save the little innocent children of the world or shut the fuck up. either obey all the ten commandments or don't ever mention them again or plant some 5,000 pound graven image in a courthouse.

either turn the other cheek or stop going to church every sunday and pretending to be a follower of christ. either love thy enemy and do unto others as you would have them do unto you or SHUT THE FUCK UP.

even i, a lowly atheist know not to kill innocent people in a foreign land for no good reason. even i, a heathen know the golden rule, and i practice it too.

from now on, when someone appears to support bush, AND jesus, i will call them on it to their faces. you are NOT a follower of christ, so stop pretending you are thou hypocrite.

amen and amen.

1. Why follow "Christ?"
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 07:10 AM by Swamp Rat
There's an XBOX 360 sale at Wal-Mart. Follow the fucking line to your instant gratification, and if you say "happy holidays," Jeebus will kill you.

2. My grandfather, a minister, taught that "taking the lord's name in vain"
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 07:12 AM by Solly Mack
really meant claiming to believe and then living otherwise. That saying "I follow Jesus" but then living a life that proved different was taking the lord's name in vain.

His reply to "God damn"? "He will and He does"

He thought curse words involving either Jesus or God were in bad taste but to his thinking and teaching, hypocrisy (not being a hypocrite & phoney Christians) was the real intent behind not taking the lord's name in vain.

5. As far as GD goes,
it originally was asking or telling God to damn someone (to hell). Therefore it was taking God's name in vain since only God makes that decision. Today, it just has degenerated into a cuss word. To constantly condemn others as far as attributing God's judgement to one's self like the fundies do, is in fact, taking God's name in vain.

17. False images and the anti choice movement
That's another reason why I cant get behind the anti choice crowd. There so blasphemous. Allways twisting and eluding to what Jesus had really said . Hell why dont they be honest and say that the real reason why they hand link around thier church is not to keep god in but to keep those of us who disagree with them out. More blasphemy than the right.

Thanks for that. It put a smile on my face. :)

What I wouldn't give to hear someone in the media or in the heights of the Democratic party say this exact thing. If only they had the juices for it.

8. Quite right
I was raised in a fundie church and left when I was 16 because of the hypocrisy.

Thou shalt not kill... bear false witness against thy neighbor... covet thy neighbor's ass (oil).

Want to drive a war-mongering fundie crazy? Tell 'em Jesus loves everyone equally and what you do to the least of men you do to Jesus... and Jesus loves Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden every bit as much as he loves you or me... and if you hate Saddam and Osama, then you are hating Jesus. You are supposed to love the sinner and hate the sin. If you are following W, you are following a false prophet that came in the name of Christ and has deceived many.

I left the church over ridicule of my music ministry... I was rockin' and my music was clearly bringing in a bunch of kids that wouldn't ordinarily come to church. I had a request list every Friday and Sunday night; people were diggin' it. Everyone except a few church elders who told me the beat of my music came from the depths of hell. I told them that Jesus works in mysterious ways and we should all be careful of what we deem unfit because it could be one of those mysterious ways.

Mysterious ways... hmmmm... maybe he had a reason for turning me from fundie to agnostic;)

23. I know of a fundie church which tells its teens not to listen to ...
... not to listen to Christian Rock. No, they say it's better to listen to ordinary country music than to Christian rock.

Isn't that rich?!!

Apparently, God hates certain beats and tempos, and loves songs about adultery and bar room fights.

25. I HATE people who call any time of music "sinful."
It's MUSIC. Music cannot be sinful. It is beyond that, and a far deeper "power" on this earth than any prophet.

9. Because they do not truly believe
The lives they lead and the words that they speak are the true measurement of the depth of their belief.

I would fall to my knees and thank the powers that made me if one such as Falwell, Dobson, or Robertson would go on TV and say to all of his followers, "I have come to the conclusion that Christ would want us to sell all that we have to feed the poor and clothe the needy. We will buy hospitals to tend to the sick. We do not need to have these palaces of worship that are really only monuments to our own egos."

I will never, ever hear such words from these hypocrites even if I was immortal and had all of infinity to listen.

12. yeah in a perfect world and all that...millennia of these same....
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 08:00 AM by jus_the_facts
....issues continues to dictate our lives today as ago...always reminds me of this letter between Jefferson and Adams in recent history...yet their attempts to make real change has never been realized....to each his own illusions of reality...because the fundies BELIEVE the exact opposite of what our country was founded on...the separation of church and state...as things slowly change...so they stay the same. :nopity:

And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerve in the brain of Jupiter. But may we hope that the dawn of reason and freedom of thought in these United States will do away with this artificial scaffolding, and restore to us the primitive and genuine doctrines of this most venerated reformer of human errors.

-Thomas Jefferson, Letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823

18. PREACH, Mopaul!!!
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 08:25 AM by Kahuna
Oops! I got a little carried away.

On edit: My succinct response to these false Christians is, God said "blessed are the peacemakers for they shall see God, not blessed are the warmongers. God did say, Thou shall not bear false witness unless you're trying to start an illegal invasion of a country that has never done us any harm." It is a good thing to learn a few simple tenets of Christ from the Bible that directly attacks what they support and believe and throw it in their faces, and then shake the dust off your feet as you leave them with a few choice quips.
