Homecoming's Joe Dante blasts "toe[ing] the FREEPER line" in interview!
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 12:16 PM by johnfunk
Joe Dante uses the "F" word!
KoZ: There's definitely a buck to be made in the international market, if your five-minute standing O at the Turin Film Festival [for Homecoming]is any indication. How did that feel?

DANTE: There were two, actually, at separate screenings. Dave Kehr noted in his review that he felt it was just liberals applauding their own ideas, but I actually think it was a response of gratitude at seeing an American movie that doesn't toe the usual freeper line. After Bush "won" the first election, Europe figured, well, at least they didn't really elect the guy. But after he "won" the second election, they started thinking, wait a minute - this guy has been screwing up (and screwing us) for four years and they reward him with another term??? So I think they're all pretty wary of us now, and they're encouraged when they see we haven't all drunk the Kool Aid.
Full interview here.

3. I wish I knew what channel showtime is in my locale..it is free to some
markets this weekend..I have tried TV Guide on line ..cannot find out how to register..tried yahoo..and they keep unregistering me..I went on my TV Guide channel on TV and did not see show time even come across the channels? It is like 'someone' does not want me to find out if show time is free to me this weekend?

6. It is free in NoVa/DC area this weekend...
...I was going to post about this to let people know that I was able to see "Homecoming" last evening.
It is such a fantastic episode. I got turned on to it after being on the Dario Argento site Dark Dreams www.darkdreams.org
Argento has an episode that I am really anxious to see called Jenifer but people on the discussion forum were talking about "Homecoming" a lot and lo and behold, I have free Showtime this weekend and got to see "Homecoming". It was really moving and powerful. I won't say anything about the ending, but suffice it to say, it was quite a "twist"!

2. He does speak our language, doesn't he - about drinking the Kool-aid
too. And the reference to the verb "won" in quotes. Probably meant emphasis, which I often do myself, to refer to the allegedness of the win.

He makes a good point, too, about world reaction. I wouldn't trust America, either, if I were watching our antics from another country. That's the reaction I feared might happen if we sent that asshole back to the White House. In fact, EVERYTHING I feared might happen has happened, and more, when bush "won" a second term. Including his and the religious extremist contingent insistence that this had been their signal to surge full speed ahead on their warped, twisted, 13th-century agenda.

4. I like this response, too

Emphasis added by yours truly.
DANTE: Hah! If movies could really change the world, we would have all disarmed after STRANGELOVE.

And now with the country so split ideologically it's become riskier for films/tv to take a stand and risk alienating the customers. And don't misunderestimate these guys...they may be down today, but they're not out. They have the media (as Ms Coulter has reminded us) and despite their almost unbroken record of jaw-dropping incompetence in nearly every area, they still know how to play the Rubes.

If our cut-rate zombie movie can make even one Bushevic question their beliefs it'll have been worth making. Sam and I look at it as kind of an act of patriotism, actually.
According to the article, some cable and satellite providers are offering free Showtime this weekend, too. I just wish I had cable. :(

10. LOVE 'Burbs! Have you seen Second Civil War?
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 05:40 PM by BeHereNow
MUST see!!!
Time for a re-release of that film.
My dad's absolute favorite.
There should be a double billing night
of Homecoming and Second Civil War (which was
absolute PROPHECY.)
LOL!
GO Joe!
I hear they are doing a second season of Masters of Horror...
Can't WAIT to see what "Master Dante" does for that!!!

12. My vote?
Joe Dante is a damned great director.
He translates the word to the visual
in a way very few directors are capable of doing
these days.
I say he is a genius !
My two cents-
