W.'s Head in the Sand

By MAUREEN DOWD
Published: December 3, 2005

(snip)

This week, the president presented a plan-like plan for "victory" in Iraq, which Scott McClellan rather pompously called the unclassified version of their supersecret master plan. But there would be no way to achieve victory from this plan even if it were a real plan. If this is what they're telling themselves in the Sit Room, we're in bigger trouble than we thought.

(snip)

The administration must realize it needs a real exit strategy, because it's advertising for one. The U.S. Agency for International Development is offering more than $1 billion for anyone - anyone at all - who can come up with a plan to pacify and rebuild 10 Iraqi cities seen as vital in the war.

(snip)

When Bush officials weren't telling us fairy tales about the big, bad W.M.D. in Iraq, they were assuring us that the unprovoked war would be a kindness for Iraq, giving it democracy. But they are not just failing to bring democracy to Iraq as they help Iranian-backed mullahs install an Islamic republic with Saddamist torture chambers. They are also degrading democracy in America.

They've tarnished American moral leadership with illegal detentions, torture, secret C.I.A. prisons in countries only recently liberated from the Soviet gulag, and Soviet-style propaganda both at home and in Iraq.

(snip)

It's awful that this fine, powerful editorial blast is sequestered behind the Times Select wall. Reading the truth is made much too expensive - but then again, at least the NYT still has Krugman, Dowd & Herbert on its staff, unlike the LAT, which canned Robert Scheer in favor of a mealy-mouthed wingnut.

2. MoDo impresses me more and more with her skewering of King Turd
and his misadventures. I know a lot of people don't like her around here because she railed on Clinton a lot (and was friends with Turd the Elder), but she's taking the hatchet to Little Turd.

7. Don't fool yourself...this woman is more dangerous to the left than a
sneaking, slithering snake. She is Tim Russert in Drag.

8. All right, I'll bite. Why?
I read her book "Bushworld: Enter At Your Own Risk" and loved it. She clearly does not think that Little Turd is competent to govern. The only thing I don't like about her was that she was unnecessarily critical of Clinton.

9. Hmmm...here is something interesting....Did you know that she was
dating a married man while she was lambasting Clinton?

OK, here's the deal...a very favorable article was written by another female reporter at the New York Magazine. I have the copy. Give me a short time and I will post a few snippets that really made me change my mind about her.
I just have to find the mag. It's right in this room...dammit!

10. Really?
Well, if that's true, I shall certainly have to take MoDo with a grain of salt...still, I like her skewering of King Pissypants.

12. In an article in the New York magazine, Nov 7, 2005:
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 02:48 PM by itzamirakul
1. It is "Dowd's...natural inclination - her fundamental drive-is, to seduce.

2. She is the lone woman columnist in a row of all male offices at the Washington Bureau of the NYT. Her office is next door to her former boyfriend, John Tierney...with whom she shares a bathroom. "It is weird," she says. "We share a bathroom which I guess could have ended up happening if we'd gotten married.

3. Dowd claims not to mind the Bush has nicknamed her "The Cobra."And she likes being called the "Flame-haired Flamethrower"

4. She refers to Aaron Sorkin as a very good friend or a guy she used to date, but he is the other well-documented romance in her life. You know Sorkin...the creator of "The West Wing..."

5. "In May 2001, the NY Post reported that Dowd had accidentally sent 'randy' emails intended for Aaron Sorkin to her colleague Andrew Ross Sorkin. "That's a real cautionary tale of e-mail," she says. "I had only met him; I didn't really know him and I was just trying to kind of give him tidbits of political things. So I just would e-mail him funny things, and that one was a joke that as if I were saying it. And it was also embarrassing because I think he was married then." It was obviously Sorkin that she was dating during her days of blasting Clinton.

6. "Dowd is assumed by most people to be a Democrat. But a certain brand of lefty will never forgive her for her coverage of the Clinton impeachment, the work that won her a Pulitzer. A lot of people thought, 'Well, Maureen Dowd should be a liberal columnist and sticking up for our side," says Mike McCurry. "They thought that she was aiding and abbetting Ken Starr and the Repub lican hate machnine, and in reality she was part of this kind of Irish-Catholic mafia that included Chris Matthews and Mike Kelly that thought Clinton's sins were beyond the pale." (p.132)

7. To show that Diowd undoubtedly has 'close relations with men such as certain news guests, "Maureen once walked up to Tony Blankley (McLaughlin's Report) while he was in the middle of a speech and flipped his tie over to see the label."

Now I don't care what ANYONE ELSE tells you, that move would only be done by a woman who is SLEEPING with that man. Can you imagine that fat Tony was in the middle of a speech and she did that to him? I will never look at his fat ass in the same way. And I am going to email the McLaughlin show about it too. We have to let them know that their images are suffering with us.

There is more, but this should let you know why I feel as I do about her. I don't trust her any farther than I could throw a feather.

... When was the last time MoDo criticized Condi Rice? :eyes:

Hint: In "Condi's French Twist" (February 11, 2005), Condi was lionized for overtly undiplomatic behavior. Why do we suppose that is? Hmmmm? :eyes:

the first link at the bottom of the article in the OP is linked to something that says pornoblog. What's up with that?

13. It' seems to be the blog owner's idea of a political joke. I saw no
actual pornography anywhere on the site, but articles on politics and public figures like the Dalai Lama.
