DU help requested re: reliable link
I've been in a quarrel with friends and family who are basically progressives but have gotten their noses out of joint over this Chritmas/Happy Holidays drama. I'm trying to point out that this is a right wing talking point that is working well (at least there in red state Alabama).People aren't talking about 10 Marines dying in Fallujah, high oil prices, outsoucrcing or I could go on and on. Instead they are talking about kicking Christ out of Christmas right on cue. Nevertheless, most people scoff at the notion that this did indeed start out as a Republican talking point. Personally I suspect on Limbaugh and/or Hannity but only listen to that shit when taking long trips (in a vehicle, not on acid). I need something solid so I can cite it next time this rares up.
Thank you for your help,
Dances with Cats (D- Pissed Off)

8. You Might Want to show Them This, Too
The word "holiday" - based on the English words, "holy" and "day" - the word "holiday" was used to mark special days on the church (but not just the church) calendar ...so "Happy Holidays" means Happy HOLY days.

Holiday \Hol"i*day\, n.
1. A consecrated day; religious anniversary; a day set apart
in honor of some person, or in commemoration of some
event. See Holyday.

9. cool, thanks
additionally, there is no historical evidence that suggests Christ was even born in December. Most likely in the spring when the Jews went to pay taxes. Jeez (pardon the pun, hehe)
