Newsflash: You're allowed to say Merry Christmas
You’re allowed to say Merry Christmas. There is not, nor was there ever, a law against saying Merry Christmas. That is why we, as Americans, have the First Amendment of the Constitution. You are allowed to say Merry Christmas to whomever you deem worthy of a Merry Christmas. The only people who say “Happy Holidays” are usually politicians or corporate workers who are told to say that so that they maximize profits by not excluding any customers. So, stop feeling oppressed, because no one is oppressing you. You are free to say what you like and always have been.

Merry Christmas!

1. P.S. Holiday = Holy Day.
So I don't know why they're complaining about "Happy Holidays".

2. OK men, remember the guys name is jsamuel
He said the MC words, and he must be arrested immediately or shortly thereafter.

Happy Holidays, it's not just a good idea, it's the law.

7. Ignore isn't appropriate when so many "middle of the roaders" feel pissed
over the whole politically correct thing. I think it is good to set the record straight that it was "political" in nature and had nothing to do with law or normal people's interactions until people decided that they should be politically correct as well. No one forced anyone to say anything and no one has.

11. You can't argue your way out of PC idiocy
But you can refuse to become part of the problem.

Live and let live. We all have the right to worship a god or not. We all have the right to celebrate any holiday the way we chose. As long as churches or synagogues or temples are not being told what to say or do and as long as it doesn't cause physical harm to someone, just live and let live.

Arguing only makes it worse and draws attention to something senseless.

... and Happy Festivus to the rest of us.

13. Me too. Oh and at our company
"Winter Festival" party there were a lot of "Merry Christmases" said by a lot of the managers including the cheif one. I saw no one being persecuted or arrested for saying it.

6. Wait a minute
Aren't christians in this country being persecuted just for breathing. Haven't all the christian churches in America been shut down? Haven't all the bibles been rounded up and burnt in the town square? It must really annoy the piss out of them to be ridiculed in their time of sorrow!?!

Another reason to use "Happy Holidays", it pisses them off even more.

8. But, if they can't feel oppressed, how will they unite?
Ever notice that all of their issues are about how they are being persecuted?

But, these people don't know the first thing about being persecuted. They have never actually experienced persecution. Not for their religion, not for their race, not for their economic status, not for their political views... Not for anything.

I find it horribly offensive that they claim such moral outrage over this type of "persecution"

12. Me, too
the whole "persecution" meme is way over done, sometimes on both sides. We are fortunate enough not to have really faced it. Yet.

9. but, but, but.... if the entire herd doesn't say it... then I can't...
 If there is a War against Christmas, then I must defend the holiday against people that don't follow the herd. I must follow. They must follow. Any non-followers are a threat to our herd-iness.

:sarcasm:

10. You know there is more than one Holiday at this time of the year.
Did it ever occur to the morons at FOX that Happy Holidays is just a shorter and easier way of saying "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" instead of a sinister left wing plot?

16. FOX & O'Reilly were selling 'Holiday Ornaments' on their web site
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 09:59 AM by havocmom
until Keith Olberman led the charge to point out their double standard. They seemed to understand the monetary reasons for using "holiday" instead of "Christmas".

FAUX damn well knows it is NOT a Christian persecution thing but, rather, a Capitalist thing to use the broader term. When their hypocrisy was pointed out on the show that beats O'Lielly in market shares, they changed their web page.

Anybody have a screen shot of the FOX Holiday Ornaments before they scrambled for cover and changed it? It was a beaut!

14. I am so fed up with right wing fundie bull shit!
They can't even let us have the holidays without making political hay out of it! I am taking back the holidays from them, because it isn't theirs!

Happy Winter Solstice everyone!

That's right, these days have been holidays for thousands of years before Jesus was born - they don't belong to Christians, Jews, Muslims, or anyone. They belong to all people everywhere, and always have. Humans have celebrated the Winter Solstice world-wide for fucking ever and this human is going to continue to do so!

Happy Winter Solstice!

20. It's a self contrived oh pitty us fake BULLSHIT controversy
No one ever said you couldn't say anything you ever wanted to. If some people and some BUSINESSES decided to do that then fine-for the most part they just ASKED employees to say a certain thing.

This is all bullshit oppression of the white male protestant bullshit.

Did I mention that it was BS?

See my sigline.

22. Yes! Give this person a resounding "So mote it be". :-)
Have a Blessed Winter Solstice and a Happy Holiday Season to all. :)

As for "Merry Christmas"/"War on Christmas" ... this "fight" has gone on (at least) almost every darn year since I was a young teen. The fundies especially seem to love to wrap themselves up in their Christian martyr complex and this makes them feel more "Christian" (goodness knows they fail in so many other ways that Jesus taught). :eyes:

Anyway for what little it's worth, here's my opinion: this Holiday season is not just about Jesus' birth, there's so much more to it and it should be for all a joyous season of love, peace and inclusion. It's also AMERICA so.... say what you want to... say what you feel... don't if you don't... now THAT'S the TRUE American way. B-)

29. Great post!
The fundies have to keep up the nonstop B.S. in order to stay busy...INSTEAD of doing as Jesus did...caring about and helping the poor and the needy!

Hypocrisy at it's finest or is that worst?! :eyes:

And a Blessed Winter Solstice and a Happy Holiday Season to all. :hi:
