BATON ROUGE, La., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Louisiana's Department of Health and Hospitals reports 1,086 bodies have now been recovered in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Seven of the bodies listed in Monday's report have been found since the department's previous report Nov. 18, the Baton Rouge Advocate said. At least 19 fatalities have been determined not to be victims of the hurricane.
Tara Lachney, a spokeswoman for the department, said area residents returning to their homes are continuing to find bodies. The state gave up its official search in early October.
The emergency morgue set up in St. Gabriel Parish has handled a total of 893 bodies with 435 released to families for burial. Of the remainder, 186 could be released, but families have not been located, two are awaiting autopsies and 270 are still unidentified.
Another 193 victims were reported by parish coroners, including 72 from East Baton Rouge.People on the right often exhort us to "remember 9/11" (which is pretty galling, considering Bush caused it either through conspiracy or incompetence)
But are we going to fail in exhorting people to remember the pile of corpses almost as high caused by Bush's bungling in Louisiana and Mississippi?
Bush let them DROWN. Never forget.
