Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 05:09 PM by Just Me
I've never seen anything like it!!! Calls Mehlman a political hack who has something in common with draft-dodging Rush: neither have a clue how to protect our soldiers!!!!

:wow:

That's the kind of aggressive responses I want to see from here forward!!!!

109. lets just take two that i have information on and not dependent on msm
to factually give the information

you cant say because he voted two different ways on the same issue, but different bills are flip flopping, firstly

the 87b is an easy one. he and others proposed a bill he voted for, that would be financed thru the taking back tax cut from the rich and opposed bush bill that was drawing on our future children. isn't that obvious. is it really necessary for me or anyone else to say once again

patriot bill. 97 clinton wanted to do patriot bill, was repug saying no. on this bill it was rushed thru, no one was able to read it all, was on conditioned that would expire and be re evaluated. when the patriot went thru, kerry saw the abuses and re vote was coming back, he absolutely and rightly was fighting for it.

you call it flip flop. i say bullshit

now i could go thru the others, but these are a couple of easy ones. again........repug talking point.

jesus h christopher christ get off the frickin kool-aid.
so why dont you go through the others? If you want I'll do a serious search and bring back a huge amount of examples.

Its like trying to reason with a fundie.

I think there is such a thing as a political fundie, no amount of actual facts will disuade you from your cherished faith. To even ask questions about it pains you.

Kerry is a good senator, a good politician and like ALL politicians he hold many stances. Unlike MOST politicians he has held more back and forth stances than others. Quit holding this guy up like he was a savior of the democratic party. Wake up and quit believing everything that the 2 corporate parties throw throw down your throat.

128. In that case, the hypocrisy in expressing a "victim's" position,...
,...(you asserting that you are being accused of being a RW hack), is blatantly obvious.

Are you finished, yet? Or must the hypocrisy be carried even further?

What's the matter? You pissed 'cause Kerry actually threw a fabulous punch?

Huh?

What compels you to come on here attacking him and all those who are acknowledging his "dukes up" stand, this evening? What's your problem with that, specifically?

I am not asserting anything...I am responding to "Do you listen to the likes of Hannity or Rush?"

I am never ever pissed when he does something great and he has done some awesome things.

I dont have a problem, you seem to.

The humor of my statement was too much to pass up. Especially so with the denial of his making the statement that he knew the election was stolen still fresh in our minds.

If it wasnt such a big deal and people didnt already have issues with him why did they blow it up so big? It should have been a one or two response gag line and gone away.

Do you normally gratuitiously slam good Senators. Was the Mehlman comment a flip flop? So why then get all giggly about the Senator's foibles in a thread about him saying a good thing?

Can you give a good Senator the occasional kudo? Even if you don't want him in 2008?

138. He didn't "make a statement"
He was chatting with someone at a party, not holding a press conference.

And the pertinent part of the exchange was:

"You wuz robbed, Senator."

"I know"

He never said what Miller said. Miller interpreted the exchange his way. And Kerry disputed that interpretation.

That doesn't make him a "flip flopper" -- and is there any chance you could find a way to express that sentiment that didn't give some of us flashbacks to dealing with Republicans during the campaign? Surely there is another way to say that you think he's inconsistent that doesn't sound like it's coming from Rush or Hannity.

It's the phrasology that's getting people's goat. You are of course welcome to your opinion. But if you're going to phrase your opinion like a Republican would, don't be surprised when people pop bloodvessels.

And your "joke" is so fucking old it needs a walker. Which would tend to negate the humor for most folks, I would guess.

to convince others you are right.

No one is saying that earlier statement would apply any time someone opposes an opinion. Trying to rank it as such is completely illogical and warped.

In this ONE instance, however, the only instance in which it is referenced, it seemed legitimate due to the fact that in reality President Kerry is quite wise, noble, and doing his best to do the right thing for our country and party, and when looked at in context makes the whole charade of the flip-flop negative connotation dissipate completely.

Kerry is a politician in a two party state who has a documented history of changing his mind on many things.

I have "listened" to AND READ Kerry's well-thought-out, balanced and INTELLIGENT analyses concerning both domestic and foreign policies. He has more goshdamn wisdom in his little toe than any ANY repuke or neocon and MOST Democrats.

He votes about 95% of the time the same way as Kennedy. He has one of the best environmental records, (gay, woman, and civil rights records). Where do you find this huge back and forth record. (Even the funding $87 billion was not a flip/flop, but a protest vote (knowing the bill would pass) because he wanted it paid by holding back on some high income tax cuts and he wanted oversight- both good ideas.)

110. Well, he didn't actually. "You wuz robbed, Senator" "I know"
should not have been turned by Miller into "Kerry now says that he knows the election was stolen."

First of all, it wasn't an interview, it was party chat. Second, there is enough room in that exchange for two or more interpretations, which is what we saw from the reactions of both men.

Miller was overzealous about an issue he cares about. That is evident. But if Kerry felt misinterpreted, he had a right to say so.

So there. :P

135. He actually has a pretty consistent record for any one
in officee for over 20 years. On many issues, he could literally take speeches from 20 years ago and not have to change them (civil rights, women's rights and the environment). On others, he has changed as he has learned new facts. Other times, the vote on which he had a choice of yes or no - was one where he really would have liked to vote yes, but or no, but.

NAFTA is a great example of this. His Senate speech, which he titled "What's NAFTA Got to do with it" brilliantly (considering it was around 1993) talked of the dangers of globalization, but pointed out that these things were driven by the economics and would happen without NAFTA. He voted for it because of promised side agreements (from Clinton) on workers' rights and other issues - because trade agreements seemed to offer a chance to minimize the problems. This year he voted against CAFTA, because of the experience with NAFTA and because it was a far worse bill. This also, shows that he learns from things that happen. So is he a flip/flopper here.

What is your problem, anyway?

being labled a right wing hack.

Through his spokesperson?

If not, then could you wait for a thread that highlights a flaw you see in Kerry instead of one where he is fighting the good fight? Just a suggestion.

If he is a good Senator in your estimation, will there ever be a time when he says something that you will say "Good job" instead of tittering about flip flops and the like?

Flip-flop, my foot; That was a made up bunch of crap the right-wingers
were putting out there. Everyone should be flexible enough to change their mind every now and again, expecially when they know they're wrong. That's the problem with repubs, they feel they're always right; therefore cannot change their mind or have a different opinion than their counter-parts.

Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 05:10 PM by Jackpine Radical
For a whole lot of reasons, including his ineffectual performance last time. I think he had a screwed-up health care plan, was too pro-war (just wanted to fight it differently) & otherwise too far right. But I was out there campaigning for him, goind door-to-door, doing phone banks, recruiting volunteers, etc. & the Kerry people kept cutting us off at the knees. All they wanted was $$. I won't get into all the details, but Kerry wasn't what I expected after having watched him in VVAW & later Iran-Contra. By the end of the debacle I felt I had been had, and so did a lot of others.

Or will you tell us this little tidbit ever f-n time Kerry's name is mentioned? Maybe you could save time and just put it in your sig.

What are we to you, Drew Barrymore? Do you think you're in the middle of "50 First Dates"? You think we can't remember from day to day that you don't want Kerry do run?

He's a Senator. You WILL be hearing statements from him from time to time, esp as he has been front and center in his criticism of the war.

It's getting almost Pavlovian. Say the word Kerry and hear "I don't want him to run."

I notice how the people who hate Kerry the most here claim to have "tirelessly" worked for his campaign. :eyes: Yet those same people seem to have no fucking clue what he was saying all year. If you are clueless enough about him to call him pro-war, you SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CAMPAIGNING FOR HIM. If you are too dense to understand his basic platform, you did more harm than good. Unless you're just making shit up, which on an anonymous message board, isn't real hard to do.

If you really did campaign for Kerry, let's hope it wasn't in a swing state. Undecided voters could smell your bitterness a mile away. If you couldn't get over the primaries, you should've stayed home.

169. She's Pat's OTHER sister.
The younger sister, Kathleen Connolly, is Bob Novak's office manager, which is how many of us inside the Beltway knew that Scooter Libby was the guy who ratted out Valerie Plame virtually the day it happened. It was Kathleen who took Scooter's phone calls.

Patrick took the lead in Plamegate and never made any secret that he knew for certain that Scooter was the culprit, though he did claim his information came from sources other than his sister in order to conceal his insider knowledge.

222. Well, I'm not everyone, and I'm certainly not anyone.
But I did tell everyone I know. And when the buzz started up again a couple of months ago, I mentioned it here a couple of times.

It actually broke two different ways. When I told people who were already paying attention, they usually nodded and said that backed up what they had heard through other sources. I'd say that by about election-time last year, all the politics mavens I knew were convinced and were astonished it hadn't exploded yet (now we know that's because Scooter was lying like hell to the prosecutor).

When I told it to people who weren't paying attention, they just couldn't grasp the import of it. Every once in a while, my mom would call up and say, "now, who is this Scooter-guy you told me about?"

The interesting thing is that now, all the politics junkies in town have no interest at all in Plamegate. Scooter elicited curiosity or dismay or impish delight. Jack Abramoff, on the other hand, has everyone scared. If you look closely enough at what that guy has been up to, you realize that every bad thought you ever had about politics didn't come close to the truth. Evil is truly amongst us.

Eh? What can you do? Insider information is worthless if you can't make a buck off of it, I guess. But if you want a tip, here it is: If I had money to invest, I'd be putting it on a safe place to live far away from this country.

I have supported the Democratic party my whole life....votes, work and money...are you telling me that now there is no room for people like me?

I certainly would not belittle anyone's effort on behalf of the Democrats...maybe this is a new party principle, fall in line or hit the road?

Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 05:47 PM by The Whiskey Priest
Anything they get they deserve and more...what it has to do with is a little over one year ago and the Democrats being talked into Kerry.

The point being it is a shame Kerry could not have shown some fight when we needed it....

also ran a damn good campaign when you consider that he had about three months to do so. Bush / Rove were planning for four years. I supported Kerry from November 2003 on- so speak for yourself.

18. Here is the entire quote
Ken Mehlman's filthy and shameful lie about a decorated combat veteran is disgraceful. Political hack Ken Mehlman and draft dodging, donut eating Rush Limbaugh have something in common. Neither of them know anything about how to make American troops safe. John Kerry will continueto speak out about how to succeed in Iraq and protect brave American troops.

Remember Rush has admitted it... It isn't spreading rumor just truth and perspective. Unlike others here who feel Kerry let them down I say "Move On" If Kerry is saying something you disagree with then tell us about it but when he is doing and saying exactly what everyone here claims they want then why the bashing? You don't have to ever vote for him, but in my opinion he is Standing Tall and deserves respect for it...

59. It's about damn time!!!!!!!!
I am so sick of the Dems pussyfooting around.

While the Reps are playing rollerball--we're often playing Candyland.

We MUST speak out like this and call a spade a spade.

I absolutely LOVE this rhetoric. Our side never says anything insulting and truthful. WE always play above board. Screw that. When you're up against hundreds of hours of lying talk radio--every once in a while you must meet the monkeys in their cages.

Rush Limbaugh remains virtually untouched by the Dems. I know they don't want to validate that blowhard. However, Rush is a joke--a lying, propagandizing, full-of-himself, fat pig, ridiculous human parody. A few truthful and insulting comments is what we need. Let's start calling 'em as we see 'em.

Thank you! The Dems are finally discussing reality with passion--instead of trying to be diplomatic. I'm sick of watching our party attempting to be civilized with a bunch of rabid pit bulls.

came out aggresively all through the campaign. It's the media, stupid. I don't mean that toward you, but how the media ignored so much, is totally shameful. They played a big part in and they totally swift boated Kerry.

139. yes. and they did it with gore, dean, kucinich?, clark and they
will with the next dem candidate. then so many on this board can buy into the bullshit and attack our own and help the media and repug with their storylines. it is not like we dont have a history, a clear example of this. but so many chose to ignore it. because they have been convinced and want to make their storyline fit with msm and repugs.

143. This would be a good time for some network to rerun
the Kerry kicking Bush's ass debates. So people can see what they missed out on.

200. Right. And follow it up with that surpressed story--
--about Bush cheating by being wired. It would be great if they reran "Let me finish!!!" as often as they ran the "Dean scream," but it would be a cold day in hell before they did that.

179. I do
Interestingly, none of the people on my ignore list posted in this thread. These are all new people, or most of them anyway. Interesting.

182. Just the opposite for me
I had to delete my ignore list to see half the posts.

It won't be hard to add them back to my ignore list though.

207. Yes, he could never match the true honesty of
a man of the people, like George W. Bush. Or the good old American team spirit of Joe Lieberman. Or the warmheartedness of Dick Cheney.

212. I'd love to, darling, but the missus would beat me up.
Doncha know.

How far to the left do you have to be standing to think the 11th most liberal Senator is a DINO.

Lieberman is a DINO... on the subject of Iraq at least. Otherwise he's fairly progressive.

Zell is a DINO extraordinare.

Kerry, not so much.

220. Prove it. Cuz corporatists were against Kyoto while JK helped to craft it
for ten years with other interested world leaders.

Corporatists were against Campaign Reform, while Kerry and Wellstone crafted the Clean Elections bill for public financing of campaigns which Kerry had advocated since 1985.

Corporatists funnel money to politicians through their coeporate pacs - Kerry had refused to accept corporate pac money for any of his senate races.

215. I'm happy he called them out on this-he said nothing wrong.
Strong words to bring attention to a cultural problem in Iraq that needs to be addressed. So what do they do, they go after the messanger because they don't want anyone to know about the situation.
