Remember the "Vietnamization" of the Vietnam War? Well, what we need is a gradual transfer of power to the Iraqi people to fight against the insurgents. I want to see our troops home as soon as possible, and there must be a timetable for this. However, my one concern is who do we leave in charge of the country when we are gradually phasing out our presence? Should we hand control over to the government that comes to power in the next elections? How can we rebuild their army QUICKLY and ADEQUATELY enough so that they can use it against Al Zarqawi (the Baathists and domestic/secular faction of the insurgents will likely die out, but the foreign fighters will likely stay to try to stir up trouble.) We need a plan that allows to, as one Republican Senator from Vermont said during the Vietnam War, "Declare victory and go home" but do it in a way that makes Iraq at least half-way stable.
