Mark Warner calls for win in Iraq...wants Bush to lay out milestones.
http://washingtontimes.com/metro/20051206-114047-2718r.htm

Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, a Democrat who is expected to seek the presidency in 2008, said yesterday that the U.S. must "finish the job" in Iraq and that he doesn't think the U.S. can set an "arbitrary" deadline for withdrawing troops.

"My view is that we need to finish the job, and I hope the president will lay out those milestones," Mr. Warner told The Washington Times when asked whether he thinks the U.S. can win the war. The governor's response comes a day after Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said thinking that the U.S. can achieve victory in Iraq is wrong.

1. Maybe he's setting up W for a fall
There is no job to finish in Iraq other than getting our troops out of there and let them fight whatever fights they choose.

22. Could be...

...he read General Clark's plans. And Kerry's. And Murtha's

Substitute "milestones" for "benchmarks" and add some vagueness - and that's Warner's mealy-mouthed plan as watered-down from Clark's proposals and borrowed from other proposals out there. Warner's not saying ANYTHING, actually.

2. Finish what job? Are we fighting terrorism, or training Iraqi soldiers?
What is "the job," and why wasn't it "finished" with Afghanistan?

4. About as vague as "whatever it takes"
I wish they'd define their terms.

Warner and Clinton are pretty close in stance aren't they?

14. Like a repetative nightmare, I keep "seeing" them as a team
I don't know why, but I believe that there are "people" (interest groups) that want a Clinton/Warner, Warner/Clinton ticket in '08.

My personal opinion is that we should be afraid of this "team".

15. He sure has the credibility since the VA election
People see him as Clinton part two "We could WIN!!"

Is that all we're after? A Southern Centrist Governor who reminds us of our last victory?

17. Exactly, and I'll add we would do better campaigning in the Mid-
West and not expecting to much from the South. They will go for any Repub first before any Dem. It doesn't matter that they are from the South. And actually, Warner was born up North.

23. Why? The South has a higher percentage of Dem voters
than the mid-West.

Check your facts, please.
