Kansas religious professor beaten after mocking Christian 'fundies'

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- A college professor whose planned course on creationism and intelligent design was canceled after he derided Christian conservatives said he was beaten by two men along a rural road early Monday.

University of Kansas religious studies professor Paul Mirecki said the men referred to the class when they beat him on the head, shoulders and back with their fists, and possibly a metal object, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.

"I didn't know them," Mirecki said of his assailants, "but I'm sure they knew me."

I gotta get out of this place, if it's the last thing I ever do!

Color me skeptical.

That said, I agree that there isn't enough information presented in the story to make a definitive statement either way; he should at least be bruised if he were hit with a metal object. Said bruises could be shown to, say, the cops.

at the hospital. No word on what wounds or bruises he had, if any. But he was evaluated by the hospital, and the police are looking for suspects...

and naturally no pictures or anything like that. But I doubt we would expect to see those anyway.

The hospital cannot release any patient info to the press without the express permission of the patient, or the patient's family (if he were in a coma or such).

county in Kansas. The fundies are very, very angry. They're getting their way on most issues these days, but they are still outraged whenever anyone dares to speak against them. And unfortunately, they have followers who believe every word they say.

years old. not an easy one to pass off on. even those that are in religion and will say it works for them, well..... educated, we have never been convinced of this. they say it, but contradicts within. yes these people are angry. i am sittin in the middle of it myself.

also i heard he apologized for email. i read what was available and i saw no reason to apologize. i use fundie. they are fundamentalist. it is not goating them. it is a short version of who they declare themselves as. and i have said much worse, to their face, not behind their backs. i hardly think that warrants them to beat me up. and i am going ot continue to speak my mind even if they declare i am prodding them
