Quote of the Day: "Put Christ back into the war planning!"
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 09:38 AM by robbedvoter
"I think it's more important to put Christ back into our war planning than into our Christmas cards," said the council's general secretary, the Rev. Bob Edgar, a former Democratic congressman.

'Holiday' Cards Ring Hollow for Some on Bushes' List

By Alan Cooperman

What's missing from the White House Christmas card? Christmas.

I am not a Christian, so please explain to me very slowly and using small words: How would Jesus plan a war?

3. Christ in War Planning?
I don't think Christ would agree to attacking a sovereign nation, and I doubt he would approve of the killing involved in war.

4. LOL. No kidding.
Aren't there more important issue out there than this "affront to Christianity"?

Like, maybe, this war? Poverty? Terrorism? The economy?

5. Bob Edgar's statement is just too vague...
I've read it in your post, and I read it in the article, and it is still without such context as to reveal the man's intent. What does he mean by it? Does he mean Christ should be in the "war planning" such that there should be no war, or that he should be considered as some sort of nefarious partner to the generals? I really can't make it out.

Anyone got any ideas about that one?

9. It's got to be
a "Blessed are the peacemakers" kind of thing.

If you want a god who likes war you have to go back to that old testament god. His son, not so much.

10. This is a guy who gets cards from W and loves them, so "Holly War"
would be my guess more than "Blessed be the Peacemakers"
But I could be wrong. Which is why, it's a good little quote.

11. Yeah I wondered that...
since the topic is "Christmas Wars" that he may have been using the term euphemistically in reference to that rather than the "war in Iraq" per se. Still a kind of weird thing to say, and certainly a very inept way to say it.

8. Whose taxes would Jesus cut?
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 10:25 AM by wicket
Certainly not the wealthy! I seem to rememeber something about how it's easier for a camel's hump to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven. The "Christians" running the country seem to have forgotten everything Jesus was about.

13. Since it was a Democrat that made this statement I would suggest
that it was made with a heavy dose of sarcasm....

14. Because he rode into Jerusalem atop of that war horse right???

I don't even know where to go with that one. Let's keep Christ out of any war planning please, enough blood has been spilled in the name of religion.
