Streisand refuses Kennedy Center honors while Shrub squatter-rights in WH

Actually a 2fer: PIRRO being pushed offstage from challenging Sen. CLINTON. Now, if we could only get Billy BUSH off of NBC with Matt LAUER slurping on him.

December 7, 2005 -- THE Kennedy Center gives treasured awards to treasured Americans an nually. You know that. Its latest awardees this week included Robert Redford. You know that. What you don't know is they assiduously courted Streisand. But, despite their efforts this year and every year for these last years, she's adamantly refusing to allow them the honor of honoring her. She says she will not let her country salute her in the capital of her country while George W. Bush is president of her country.

Heretofore, Hollywoodites respected this attitude. However, her black cloud is starting to pale even to the Left Coast left-wingers now that progressive Redford, a conservationist with the real credentials, not just the mouth of a liberal, accepted the honor. Suddenly the nation's capital and the movie capital are starting to sniff that off-base Miss B.S. is just plain grandstanding.

THEY'RE saying words like "draft" in terms of Jeanine Pirro and the attorney general job. In other words, what they're saying is, the swell of partisanship will sort of nudge her into accepting this other position, the one everyone in captivity wanted her to take in the first place. They're saying it'll happen Dec. 12. Is what they're saying. It'll be face-saving. It'll come off as a draft. Is what they're saying.

3. It doesn't really surprise me.
There have been a number of progressive/liberal types who have gone ahead with the Kennedy Honors, no matter who was in the Oval Office. But I could believe that Streisand would take this stance. I hope she doesn't have long to wait...

4. The poor NY Post: Baffled by real principles
They're so accustomed to Republican pandering, shifting every time the wind changes direction even a little bit, that someone standing on a principle just totally discombobulates them.

The poor dears are just not cut out for a world where everything doesn't conform with the latest GOP blast fax.

8. Funny how everyone here loves the NY Post when it rags on Hillary, though
Yesterday the NY Post was just about the most credible source of news on this forum, even though it was spinning and twisting as usual.

5. When push comes to shove,
apparently even respected artists like Redford can't resist the siren song of going down in American history via the Kennedy Center. I, too, was disappointed at Redford (and Newman, who showed up to introduce him), but I sort of understand. Sort of.

I just think it's too bad, that's all.

Hooray for Babs. She's tried and true and puts her money - and her self-respect - where her beliefs are. Can you imagine her standing beside Fuckface, even to get some kind of ribbon around her neck?

She's bigger than that. I say, she's the one who honored herself - and the American people.

Redford, well, he's an old guy with a bad eye job, so he can now be overlooked. And I'll still buy Newman's products, because that's one great business he and his buddy started.
