Simple question about the politics of speaking out against the war
With all of these reports lately about some Democrats being worried that speaking out against the war will hurt their chances in 2006, I've been thinking about every single poll that's been out recently that shows that the American people are very wary of this war. Why do they think it will hurt them to take the position that most Americans have?

1. Well, this crop of Democrats
Obviously care more about their $1,000 suits and plush offices and more power instead of doing the right thing and listening to those who put them in office.

Which Democrats? Let them sppeak out. This reminds me of the technique used by Fox News discussed on "Outfoxed."

3. Those "Democrats" are more worried about politics than about human sufferi
They make me sick. So much death and misery and all they are worried about is whether their message sells. Screw them. They have no compassion and deserve none when they are ousted on their buts.

4. The News Media at work
Actually its republicans who are working feverishly to come up with an anti-war stance of their own which will be palatable to their base next year. In about six months to eight months (close to the elections as possible) they'd like to paint democrats as war mongers while they are pursuing "peace with honor" while doing their damndest to distance themselves from the white house. Dems who want to be successful in 06 should rally around Rep Murtha NOW.

6. I could see the Republicans doing that - maybe with Hagel
who is not close to Bush, quite conservative and "concerned" about the war. He is a vet - so the Republicans would have to break their pattern of sliming vets.

I think the Feingold or Kerry plans are good too. The point is that Bush is not going to implement any of them. I hope things come to a head because the Arab League and Iraq demand we leave. They already said we should leave within a year and called for us to stop policing Iraq. It might well be that the rest of the world will demand we leave.

7. "all these reports about some ______________ bla bla bla,"
fill in the blank, is ALWASY propaganda. It is yack yack yack to build unquestioning public perception that fase is true. War is Peace, you know, it spreads Democracy. Media is Liberal. Bleeding heart liberals hate our troops. Etc.
