Omar Shariff calls a valet at a restaurant a "Stupid Mexican"

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Actor Omar Sharif pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that he assaulted a valet who refused to accept his European currency.

Sharif, 73, was not required to be in court and his plea was entered through his lawyer. A pretrial hearing was set for Jan. 10.

According to a civil lawsuit filed in October by the valet, Sharif and a female companion were leaving a steakhouse in Beverly Hills on June 11 when the actor became upset that his Porsche SUV was not waiting.

Sharif was belligerent and intoxicated and called the valet a "stupid Mexican" when he refused to accept a 20 euro note, the lawsuit claimed.

because I have enjoyed his performances. He has been into playing bridge for a number of years at the professional level (I don't have a clue how it is played, it never interested me).

He made a film a few years back, called MONSIEUR IBRAHIM. It is in French, which is probably why it did not get much play over here, but you can get it with subtitles if you do not speak the lingo. It is a JEWEL of a film--he plays a Turk in France who owns the French equivalent of a convenience grocery store, who befriends a young lad with an emotionally distant father. Well worth watching.

Actually not far from Beverly Hills...in West Hollywood, and the stuff I've overheard at the local restaurants are almost worth paying admission for. And it goes both ways. Recently, I was in a Jack In The Box on Santa Monica Blvd...in walks an older Mexican man (say about 50'ish)...started hitting on some of the women in the restaurant and when he was rebuffed by the manager called him an "anglo pandejo"...half the restaurant chuckled, the other half had no clue.

I enjoy watching Carlos Mencia...some of his bits on this topic are hillarious.

and he quite impressed me. He also knows what it means to suffer under racial prejudice. Which does NOT mean I co done his behaviour.

both proveable points (he didn't take a 20 euro tip, significantly more than a $20 tip, thanks to our fearless leader), then the only problem is the alleged punching. is it assault to mistake a guatemalan for a mexican? i was mistaken for a australian when i was in turkey. i was flattered.

he didn't say "wetback" or "beaner" (both of which i didn't even know till i watched "mind of mencia").
