American Democracy – Is it real, or Orwellian?
As a clue for the answer, let me ask a few more questions.

Is being forced to go to war unnecessarily democracy or tyranny?
When millions of citizens march to prevent a war before it starts, is ignoring them democracy or tyranny?
Is declaring a foreign nation a target for “preemptive” war, when intelligence indicates it is no threat to us, democracy or tyranny?
Is lack of emergency government response to a natural disaster, killing and devastating thousands of citizens, democracy or tyranny?

Our government says we have democracy, and they intend to spread this “American Democracy” to other lands, especially the Middle East. God help those lands if this is what we are spreading. To be more honest, these words are what they are saying:

Democracy is tyranny! (By the oxymoron phrase “tyranny of the majority” - tyranny is imposed on the majority, not by it)

Perpetual war is perpetual peace (per Gore Vidal's book of a similar name). And Donald Rumsfeld's comment that “The war on terror may never end.”

Progress is violence (Dick Cheney on Iraq). He says we have progress, but the reality is violence.

Mission accomplished means it is just starting (George W. Bush)

Human rights needs torture (Dick Cheney).

My friends, Big Brother couldn't have said it more clearly! If you can't see the truth here, we really are in trouble.

Democracy is “government by the people”. We have government by an elected minority. And our elective choices are carefully screened before we hear or see much of them – no matter the party affiliation. The corporate media makes sure of that.

But our Constitution reserves sovereignty to the people, not our elected representatives. We can have democracy without much effort if we decide to just do it! All we need to do is say so by our votes. Don't expect our corporate controlled government to offer it to us though, through an official election. It won't happen. We must run our own election for democracy. Former Democratic Senator Mike Gravel is making it easy for us. He has formed a group that has put together a formalized law and constitutional amendment that we can vote for. Much work has been put into the design of this legislation to ease the people's law making power. It is called the National Initiative for Democracy.

I hope you will join with me in deciding we have had enough of this corrupt government system and vote for democracy. You can vote at the website. And please support it with at least a one dollar donation.

Democracy is still possible in America!

1. At this point, American democracy is extremely close to death.

3. So, what are you going to do about it?
Will you vote for democracy - while you still can?

4. It existed in ancient Greece.
That's where democracy was invented. It was doing very well in that peaceful society, until they were attacked and overrun by an invading army.

6. They were a slave owning society

So no, Greece doesn't count unless you want to say Democracy and Slavery are not mutually exclusive.

8. You're missing the point.
They probably had slaves, I will concede that. But most all societies back then had slaves as far as I know.

The ancient Greeks shared in an equitable government, however.

11. My point was you can't find a real democracy anywhere

Did the slaves have a vote? No, by definition, thus no democracy.

12. You are being irrational, 400.
I agree about the slaves. But it is the "system of government" we are discussing. Those slaves were not considered citizens, just as George Washington's slaves were not considered citizens. It's the citizens that make up a democracy.

We made a big step forward here in America when we freed the slaves and made them citizens.

By the way, Switzerland is a democracy. The people of Switzerland regularly modify their constitution to suit themselves.

9. My dear Tierra, that's my point!
We, the people (of 1776) declared ourselves sovereign and created a constitution of representative elected government. But we left ourselves ultimately in charge.

We can have democracy, or we can let some minority (who run for office) rule us. With their power, they will gradually drain ours. Which do you prefer?

10. Which is real, democracy or tyranny?
We don't have democracy. We, the people, are almost powerless if we believe our government.
