Jack Reed: "Complete victory's a nice slogan, but what does it mean..."

Comments pertaining to President Bush's remarks on Iraq:

___

"Iraqis are beginning to see that a free life will be a better life. Reconstruction has not always gone as well as we had hoped, primarily because of the security challenges on the ground. Rebuilding a nation devastated by a dictator is a large undertaking." — President Bush.

___

"Just because he says thing are improving there, doesn't make it so ... The president says the security situation on the ground is better. It is not. More of the same in Iraq is not making us safer." — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

___

Bush again "failed to provide a strategy for success or speak honestly to the American people about the failures in rebuilding Iraq and the challenges that lie ahead. Instead, he cherry-picked isolated examples of Iraq's reconstruction from two cities that provide an inaccurate and incomplete picture of the situation on the ground for most Iraqis," — Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

___

The president "fails to understand the limited role the U.S. military should play in Iraq's long-term political and economic reconstruction efforts." — Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis.

___

"Complete victory's a nice slogan, but what does it mean and how long will it take?" — Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I.

1. I knew I liked Reed.
I saw him speak at school a couple of months back, and I instantly trusted him. I don't know why, since it usually takes work for me with politicians to trust them, but this guy was either really slick or really honest.

4. Reed is a good Senator

He needed to grow into the job a little (he had to fill the shoes of the most respected Senator Claiborne Pell, who you have to thank for any Pell Grants and Student loans you may have), but he's a good man and increasingly deserving of respect.

War on terra, Culture of Life, Support the Troops, don't CUT and RUN,

3. There is no there there...
I just can't find words to describe how empty *'s statements are, how devoid of truth and connection from reality. Pretty banners don't work, or we'd be done through the magic of "mission accomplished."
