Murtha responds to Lieberman - ALLRIGHT!!!!
Murtha responds to Lieberman.
Lieberman yesterday:
"It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be commander in chief for three more critical years and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation's peril."

Murtha today:
"Undermining his credibility? What has he said that would give him credibility?"

29. Lots of Jews have dual citizenship in America and Israel.
That's not that big a deal. It is the policy of Israel to allow citizenship to all Jews, as it is a political manifestation of the Jewish religious concept of the Holy Land promised to them by God. Most Israelis, contrary to some opinion, don't want to invade Iraq. The radical right-wing Israelis that ascended to power after repeated Palestinian terrorist bombings made the populace frightened and desperate enough to elect them are the ones who have been trying to destroy Iraq. Lieberman is a shit, though.

56. That would be the maverick and independent Lowell Weicker.
Weicker May Return to Politics Over Lieberman's Support of War

By WILLIAM YARDLEY
HARTFORD, Dec. 5 - Former Gov. Lowell P. Weicker Jr. on Monday criticized Senator Joseph I. Lieberman's continued support of the war in Iraq and said that if no candidate challenged the senator on the issue in the 2006 election, he would consider running.

"When you've become the president's best friend on the war in Iraq, you should not be in office, especially if you're in the opposing party," Mr. Weicker, 74, said in a phone interview from his home in Essex, Conn. "I'm going to do everything I can to see that Joe Lieberman does not get a free pass."

He said that Mr. Lieberman, a Democrat, currently had no challengers, either from within his party or from Republicans, in his campaign for a fourth term. Mr. Weicker said he believed that no Republican would challenge Mr. Lieberman on the war.

"If he's out there scot-free and nobody will do it, I'd have to give serious thought to doing it myself, and I don't want to do it," added Mr. Weicker, an independent, who said he had been opposed to the war from the beginning.

In 1988, Mr. Lieberman, a Democrat who was then Connecticut's attorney general, narrowly defeated Mr. Weicker, then a Republican United States senator, in Mr. Weicker's bid for re-election. Two years later, Mr. Weicker ran for governor as an independent and won. He served one term before retiring in 1995, but his stature as a maverick political voice in the state has endured. In 1999, Reform Party supporters encouraged Mr. Weicker to run for president in 2000, but after flirting with the idea, he ultimately declined.

I have been able to find Lieberman's comment in a search of news items, but I'm coming up empty when I try to find Murtha's rebuttal. So far the only place I've seen it is in a post at thinkprogress.org

I would be bummed if Murtha's comment ended up to be a hoax. Unlike repukes, the truth is good enough for us to tell.

Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 05:29 PM by kpete
QUESTION: Mr. Murtha, what do you say to Senator Lieberman whom yesterday said Democrats need to acknowledge that this president is commander in chief for three more years, that undermining his credibility...

MURTHA: Undermining his credibility? What has he said that would give him credibility?

He said there was Al Qaida connection. He said there was a connection with nuclear weapons. He said there's biological, chemical weapons there. He said there's progress now. I'm showing you that I don't see the kind of progress he sees.

I'll tell you what they're saying to me when they call. It's refreshing. We're seeing some honesty about this thing.

Now, I don't know that you could call them dishonest but it certainly is not -- the public is not buying it and they've changed their mind, I think, because they feel that they've been misled.

Not the running away from that too many, like Lieberman, Schumer and Hillary Clinton did. I support removing a great deal of the soldiers now, leaving a portion just while we train the Iraqi army and to protect the citizens. Our days as an occupying force must end. Saddam, as ruthless as he was, had a firm grip on all the different groups - we'd need to be there a long time if we wanted our own strong influence.

I watched the videos of Murtha during l'affaire Schmidt. He knows who he is, he has personal and intellectual integrity, and he's poised. LIEberman has none of those characteristics. He's a weak sister compared to Murtha's adult. This will be worth watching. LIEberman will make some stupid response and then Murtha will drop a big one on him. Good!

68. Rep. John Murtha is right -
Re deploy the troops...Murtha is absolute right. Re deploy is not cutting and running.

I listened to G.W. speech to day and the man is seriously flawed. If he mentioned the word "WE" once he used it a few dozen times.

Who, in gods name, is G.W. talking about when he says WE? The military personnel over there are the ones doing the fighting and dying. "We the people" are simply paying the bill: while corporate America is filling it's pockets with billions of dollars. Why? G.W. says mistakes were made. You bet billion's of dollars in mistakes. Auditors wont be able to check the books to see where it all went because it will be top secrete and off limits to anyone wanting to review where the money had gone.

G. W. acts as if he's a CEO of a company. When the CEO doesn't know what he's doing stockholders lose money and employee's lose jobs; they don't die!!!

The construction work going on over there is being done my American Company's. G.W. doesn't mention that in his speeches. When they're through Iraq will have a bill so inflated they wont be able to pay the interest on it. Most if not all the oil money they talk about will be coming to the US oil companies and the Iraq people will suffer under a huge deficit problem.

In my view G.W. has lost all credibility. I repeat, Rep Murtha is right! He has articulated an excellent exit plan and in the end that is what's going to happen. We can't leave our troupes in Iraq like we are currently doing in Korea. They've been there for over fifty year.

Redeploy, and save American lives ASAP

71. Senator Lieberman speaks as though he knows he cannot be defeated in 2006.
It seems he may be right, so far. Can't we get Hillary to move to CT?

Well, now that I think about it, that might not change the political landscape in the US Senate in terms of the delegation from CT.

Oh well, it is still true that Senator Lieberman speaks as though he knows he cannot be defeated in 2006.

76. Forget Hillary. How About the Big Dog??
Let's get Bill to move to CT and take this seat away from JoeMO.

President Clinton has got to getting bored playing golf with the dimwits dad.

Come on Bill. CT would elect you in a landslide. Then in 2009, the First Gentleman would also be a Senator from CT. It would cause the Freeps to self destruct.

75. This Murtha guy is starting to grow on me. I have always thought him to
be a little too conservative for my tastes but damn! I am starting to like the big guy!

78. Lieberman represents the Israeli lobby re Iraq.
That's why he's so gung-ho about the war. Too bad he's not interested in representing the interests of the American people with equal zeal.
