Doesn't The Holidays Include The New Year As Well, Not Just Christmas
So the greeting, "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings" is just a way to shorten the greeting to include ALL of the season's holidays?

1. The whole thing is bullshit
a made up controversy to draw attention away from anything but the actual news. Ignore it.

2. That's how I see it
I'm so sick of hearing about the war on Christmas BS. It's entirely manufactured by the right wing loons. Happy Holidays and Season's Greetings have been around for as long as I can remember, and nobody ever complained that it diminished Christmas before. It's just plain ridiculous!

4. This whole "war on Christmas" thing is manufactured by the right.
It seems to me that it started out a few years ago as a complaint about people using the shorter "Xmas". They started howling then that people were taking Christ out of Christmas. Now they have a new theme, but it seems to me that it's the same holier than thou crew trying to impress everyone as to how Godly they are.

5. Thats what I thought..
it just included everything. I guess the fundies are going to cry if they don't have some kind of favored status. I don't even see this as a "right/left" issue, it's only the fundies and Fox News, even the White House sent "holiday" greetings and not "Christmas" greetings. The WH pr people made the evil argument that the cards go to people of all faiths. How dare they send cards to people other than Christians :eyes:

6. For me, as an Orthodox Xtian, the holidays don't end until after Jan 6
where we celebrate Epiphany. My church celebrates December 24-25 as the Feast of Stephen.

And other cultures celebrate January 6 as well.

The Brits celebrate Twelth Night.

In some Latin/Central/Caribbean countries, January 6 means the Feast of the 3 Kings, in others, it's the kick-off to Carnival season.

So yes, Season's Greetings is meant to be inclusive.

8. New Years Eve, New Years day, Xmas Eve, Xmas day, etc
When I was a kid, I thought "holidays" referred to each day of our two-week school vacation. :D
