Great idea from Planned Parenthood
Dear _______,

Last month, Target ignored 95,000 letters from Planned Parenthood supporters about its bad pharmacist refusal policy, letting all of us know we cannot "expect more" from this discount store than we do from Wal-Mart.

When Target executives told Planned Parenthood that they would not require pharmacists to fill prescriptions in-store, they thought they had heard the last from us. But we know better. We're taking our campaign to the next level with a photo petition, and we need you to help us succeed.

Give Target a Piece of Your Mind http://www.saveroe.com/target/photos

Three Ways to Give Target the Message

Create a homemade sign and have a friend snap a picture of you holding your sign.

Take an existing digital photograph of yourself or of something meaningful to you, and use a graphics program to add text on top of the picture.

Or, write a message for Target on your arm or hand and submit a picture of that. Be creative if you like.

Don't delay — join the photo petition campaign now!

We will display the petition on our Web site to show Target executives that you and thousands of other consumers expect more from them than hip advertising and cute merchandise. All you have to do to join this campaign is upload a picture, with your personal message included, on our Target Photo Petition page.

Tell Target you expect more today!

Karen Pearl
Interim President
Planned Parenthood Federation of America
On behalf of the Planned Parenthood community

2. Welcome to DU!
And some target pharmacists refuse to fill the prescription birth control RU-486 because it 'violates their religious beliefs'.

4. They've done more than that
They've refused to fill emergency contraception and ordinary birth control pills, along with RU-486 (which, by the way, has to be administered with another drug and under a physician's care unless it's being used for one of its other labeled uses.

Since all these meds do have other uses besides what these sanctimonious twits feel violates their piety, they're playing physician without the knowledge base and without examining the patients. In other words, these jerks aren't just refusing to do their jobs, they're putting some patients in real danger.

The state pharmacy boards need to receive enough complaint on these assholes to get off their overpaid asses and act. Any pharmacist who fails to rill a legal prescription for any medication in the absence of a serious allergy or drug interaction is violating the terms of his licensure, and should have that license pulled.

11. Oh I agree
I can't refuse to teach a kid; a cop can't refuse to arrest a criminal; a fireman can't refuse to put out a fire. Professionals do their jobs IN SPITE OF personal opinions or religious convictions. If you don't believe in birth control pills, then don't become a freeking pharmacist.

5. Thanks for the welcome and
I heard recently that some Walgreen pharmacists were fired for refusing to fill birth related scrips ( and rightly so) . The article I read said their actions would be OK if it was the company policy. I can't remember if this was state specific, but I think it was. Is it Target's corporate policy or is it by state. Either way, if Target is doing this I suppose they have the right, but others have the right to take them to task. Good job and I look forward to any further info you can provide.

8. I think it is corporate policy
to allow the pharmacists to choose whether or not to fill the scripts. Very few states have laws covering this.

I don't think Target has the right to allow this. Doctors make decisions regarding legal prescriptions. Pharmacists fill them whether they 'approve' or not. That is their job. If they don't believe in filling all legal prescriptions, they should go into another line of work.

I agree. If you are a PETA member, don't work in a chicken factory.

3. There is no such thing as a stupid question
and I apologize for not explaining better.

Target is letting its pharmacists refuse to fill birth control prescriptions. WalMart is doing this too. Planned Parenthood is fighting it.

And welcome to DU :hi:

10. Walgreens corporate policy
is that each pharmacist has a choice -- but if they chose not to fill a script, the must make a referral to one who will.

In the case of the firings, there is a law in Illinois that requires it, which over-rides the Walgreen's policy.
