'Deeply flawed' Congress calls hearing on Football Championship Series
HOUSTON (AP) -- Calling the Bowl Championship Series "deeply flawed," the chairman of a congressional committee has called a hearing on the controversial system used to determine college football's national champion.

"College football is not just an exhilarating sport, but a billion-dollar business that Congress cannot ignore," said committee Chairman Joe Barton, a Texas Republican. Barton's panel is separate from the House Government Reform panel that tackled steroids in baseball.

The committee announcement called the hearing, scheduled for next Wednesday, a "comprehensive review" of the BCS and postseason college football.

"Too often college football ends in sniping and controversy, rather than winners and losers," Barton said. "The current system of determining who's No. 1 appears deeply flawed."

1. geez Joe, how about the 40 million Americans living in poverty
or without health care. How about our educational system? Maybe you might want to look at finding a way out of Iraq? Just a guess. Of course, I like football a lot myself, but you know, I don't exactly think the BCS is a life or death situation. Fixing Medicaid and Medicare is though.

And, Republicans call Dems out of touch?

23. Football IS America, You
traitor! Why do you hate America? Why do you hate our troops (our troops love football, so by not caring about football, you hate our troops!) ;) (Republican Logic)

4. No joke....
Those fools can get all worked up about college football...especially if they are southern. (I love it myself, but it wouldn't be a priority if I were in Congress.)

3. A breathless nation awaits the verdict of this committee...
Hey, Barton! Buy a vowel and get a clue! I'm guessing there are a few more pressing problems in America today.

5. They're on a roll!
Didn't they just solve the steroid problem in baseball?

Next, they'll take care of violence in hockey.

Just in time to take on the designated hitter rule in baseball.

Who says these guys don't earn their salaries?

6. I'm worried that allowing zone defenses take away from the purity
of the NBA.

Maybe I should give Roy Blunt a call?

7. Dammit, tell him to get on it!
Time's a wastin'!

Call/ e-mail your representative NOW to get something done about your favorite sports-related problem.

Maybe we could come up with our own "Move On" type lobbying group and send out action alerts.

Since, y'know, these guys have nothing else to do except trash other members who speak out against the war . . .

Why is Cincinnati in the "West?"

And what the heck are the Arizona schools doing in the "Pacific" 10?
Not too many views of the Pacific from Albuquerque.

Sounds like a problem for congress to sort out, pronto!

19. Are they gonna discuss cheerleaders also?
this is important also,
because they have to attend a march madness type contest also.
Do they think wrestling is too gay of a sport,(men holding men down)
even though I was a wrestler, undefeated and not gay.

20. I was a wrestler too
but then after reading the bible and getting out of shape, I decided it was too close to being gay, so I retired.

Hopefully I can get on the committee that chooses the cheerleaders, I could handle that.

21. Cheerleaders and then I think an investigation about Bears would be in
order.
Oh, then come to think about it,
why not gay, wrestling, cheerleaders, basketball playing bears in colleges
that help the advancement of science and knowledge.

Hey, sorry, forget about that advancement science and knowledge bit,
that is not important in our schools.

than sit around and let the country go to hell while they worry about sports and the size of their bank accounts.
