House Panel Keeps Alive INQUIRY INTO BUSH 16 WORD SOTU LIE!

ATT: Media - YOWZA! House Panel Keeps Alive Hinchey SOTU Inquiry! 24-24 vote
by Sherlock Google
Thu Dec 08, 2005 at 01:45:11 PM PDT

OMG! Unexpected development: The Republican House Committee on International Relations just voted to keep alive Hinchey's Resolution of Inquiry requesting Bush to turn over all docs relating to the 16-word SOTU Lie! Henry Hyde tried to kill it but it survived with a 24 to 24 tie.

The committee must still approve and the full House still must vote but this tie was a real turn-around, maybe the start of something in the House.

House Panel Keeps Alive Hinchey Measure To Obtain All
White House Drafts Of 2003 State of the Union Address
That Contained False Iraq Uranium Claims

Congressman Says American Public Deserves To Know How Infamous 16 Words About Iraq Seeking Uranium From Africa, Now Proven False, Made It Into Final Draft Of Speech

Washington, DC -- In rare fashion, the House Committee on International Relations today kept alive a resolution Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) authored that would require the White House to present Congress with all drafts and documents related to the crafting of President Bush's 2003 State of the Union address. Hinchey offered the resolution so that Congress could determine how the now infamous 16 words about Iraq seeking uranium from Africa, which turned out to be false, made it into that 2003 speech. Hinchey's measure would also require the White House to deliver to Congress all drafts and related documents surrounding an October 2002 speech that the president made in which he discussed a possible mushroom cloud from an Iraqi nuclear weapon, but did not mention an effort by Iraq to obtain uranium from Africa after the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) said such claims were unproven.

EVERYBODY in the House is up for re-election this year. NOBODY wants a Paul Hackett type breathing down their necks--or even a moderate Republican! Articles of impeachment, anyone? CUE THE VONAGE THEME!

:woohoo:

3. the full Congress has to adopt the measure!!
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 04:50 PM by rodeodance

.......The Hinchey measure to acquire the documents surrounding the State of the Union address and the October 2002 speech is considered a resolution of inquiry, which is a type of bill that seeks factual information from the executive branch. If the full Congress adopts the measure, the White House would have 14 days to present Congress with all of the requested documents.

6. We need to stay on top of this. Should we write all reps making sure
they know we will watch their votes on this? Or...some other strategy to pressure them to vote to get the info? Ideas?

Who in the media would be likely to mention this? Tweety maybe? He's been all over the similar stories lately.

12. I've examined my balls.
Crystal balls that is. ;-)

And I foresee an anouncement soon that those drafts and other documents have been accidentally shredded due to a clerical error.

Consequently the office clerk and the shredder operator will be going to jail for their awful derelection of duty.
They will be locked up like those terrible foot soldiers responsible for mistreatment of prisoners in Iraq.

The administration will again show its strength and efficiency in bringing the evil doers to justice and keeping the American people safe.
