I Just Returned from a Rally............
which was sponsored by the Massachusetts AFL-CIO.

Over 6,000 people participated in a march from Boston Common, through the streets of Boston, ending up at the State House. we were led by bag pipers. The rally was in honor of human rights day and the theme of the march was "workers rights are human rights." Bob Haynes, the AFL-CIO President gave a great speech, as well as Amanda Shapiro, who represented the student union at Harvard. In the end we put "George W. Bush" (actually, an actor with a Bush mask) is a stockade in front of the Massachusetts State House, to the jeers and cat-calls of the thousands present. There, speakers called for workers' rights and human rights while the Bush impostor squirmed in the stockade.

All in all, it was a great day and night, although it was cold.

1. Sounds like a lot of fun!
I hope they spoke a word or two of support for the TA's at NYU.

2. Actually
There was a guy who spoke from a CWA Union in New York that is striking against Verizon.

The AFL-CIO President from New Hampshire spoke. Unions from all over New England, including police, fire, teachers, trade unions, IBEW, SEIU, Teamsters, and on and on. Flags waving, bands playing and chants, such as George Bush Sucks and Romney Sucks were heard throughout the march. It really was something. I was so glad I participated.

3. I've been
following the TA's case- it's interesting to me because I applied to be a TA last semester, but wasn't accepted :(
I'm glad I don't go to NYU, because I couldn't go to class- "never cross a picket line" was right up there with "don't talk to strangers" as rules my mother taught me. :)(She's in AFL-CIO, actually, and my dad's a Teamster).
Yeah, that wasn't really relevent- sorry.

5. The kids at NYU are kind of hitting a brick wall
with the schools' leadership. My Pop taught there for many years and he's steaming.
