Tell Sen. Joe Lieberman: Debate Is Patriotic (Please sign this)
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 09:11 PM by Quixote1818
Send Lieberman a letter here:
http://tools.democracyforamerica.com/petition/telljoe/?refid=5454398d26368cd2

This is the letter on the home page:

Dear Senator Lieberman,

Recently you said, "It's time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge he'll be commander-in-chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation's peril."

I disagree. The First Amendment enumerates our right "to petition the government for a redress of grievances." If Americans don't challenge a president who is bankrupting our treasury, destroying our moral leadership and jeopardizing our national security then we fail as patriots.

Senator Lieberman: As a member of the "world's greatest deliberative body," it's time you stopped trying to stifle debate and instead become part of the solution by joining the majority of Americans in questioning President Bush's foreign policy.

Respectfully,

Jim Dean
Chair, Democracy for America

2. Done. here's my P.S. to Joe:
Americans aren't sitting around waiting three and a half years for new leadership!

The Adminsitration and Congress have not represented Americans and I can't wait to cast my vote next year for people who are not owned by corporate and special interests.

Here's my PS...

It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from his government. -Thomas Paine

You can't undermine credibility if there was never any to begin with, Joe.

Peace.

5. Who made Lieberman the fucking judge of what to say, what not to say???
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 09:34 PM by Selatius
I distrust political parties in general. Want to know why? Because the thought of somebody I disagree with almost viscerally on several issues such as the freedom "to petition the government for a redress of grievances" could possibly have the same "D" behind his name that I do.

If he thinks he is so much higher than everybody else so that he can make a choice for me and ignore my own ability to make that same choice, then he might want to reread the part of the Declaration of Independence that states that "all men are created equal." If that assertion is to be accepted, then reason suggests we all have a chance to voice our opinions equally without fear of somebody saying we should shut up because it exposes our country to peril. The last thing I want to deal with in my own party is a fucking nutjob who holds that nasty authoritarian habit of trying to shut down debate rather than addressing the real fucking issue.

6. I signed already, but my comments were not very PC
I told him I am sick and tired of him kissing George W Bush's ass and that if he cannot be an effective leader of the people to get out of the senate. I am boiling mad about this traitor. I can't stand the sight on him on TV and listening to his quavery voice makes me want to throw something at the TV. To think that if Gore had actually been seated as president (as he should have) we would have this idiot as a vice president! The repiglicans seem to permeate everything!

7. My reply to LieBerman...kind of long.
Hon. Joseph Lieberman

Sir,
I find it profoundly disturbing that you have taken the position of telling dissenters of this administration that they (we) are undermining, not only Pres Bush, but America's safety and security by dissenting and pointing out the inconsistencies of this administration and their many abuses of power. This administration has seriously eroded our country's standing in the world to the point where most of our trusted allies and their public no longer trust us. I know this because I live overseas and have for almost a decade. In this time I have watched a generally positive view of America and it's government turn sour. Whether he'll be commander-in-chief for the next three years is irrelevant. It's what he has done in his position over the past 5 years that is the important point. His behavior during that time is a window into how he will behave for the next three years. I would say, Sir, that your tacit and unequivocal support of Mr. Bush makes you an enabler. You enable him to act irresponsibly, which he has. He has emptied out the treasury, burdened my children and grandchildren with a massive debt we may not be able to crawl out of in my lifetime, he has hurt our environment with his regressive policies, and as I stated earlier, seriously damaged our international standing in both countries that have been our allies and further alienated countries that didn't like us before. To quote former President Theodore Roosevelt, ""The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."
