Republicans Aim to Link Democrats to Abramoff
Political Wire: Republicans Aim to Link Democrats to Abramoff

The National Republican Senatorial Committee "is planning a public-relations offensive tying leading Democrats to lobbyist Jack Abramoff in an effort to neutralize accusations that Republicans have been embroiled in a 'culture of corruption,'” The Hill reports.

"The campaign will zero in on Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV); Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, both Michigan Democrats; and the Democratic Senatorial Committee (DSCC), among others, for taking money from Abramoff’s former clients."

1. I do not think it will work given fact Delay forbade Dem lobbyist contacts
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=296&topic_id=5564&mesg_id=5564

During the ENRON corporate scandals, the NRSC put out a document that was more than 50 pages detailing Democratic ties to Enron. Looks like they are trying to do the same with Abramoff. But I also like the Florida problem of Rep. Katherine Harris who took $51,000 from two defense companies, MZM Inc. and ADCS Inc., associated with Cunningham, And maybe the Dems could include in the attack other corruption - like Sen. Rick Santorum role in the K Street Project that is still trying to purge Democratic lobbyists from corporate funding lists.

I think the GOP will have a hard time selling - if they are forced by the media to stick to facts - Democratic Abramoff corruption connections based on Stabenow recieving a $6,000 contribution from the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe, an Abramoff client, or on Ried recieving from Abramoff clients $66,000.

2. Yeah, it's just desperation at this point.
Even if a few Dems went down, it would first be good for the party anyway, and secondly would not come close to how many Republicans we will see are implicated.

3. Yes, I have read a few stories about this.
I just emailed Debbie Stabenow and carl Levin about it. I live in MI. If I see any of this crap out in our local newspaper, I will write and opinion article against this. It seems to be a witch hunt to me.

4. If democrats are tied to Abramoff, I want them gone too.
Listen, I'm partisan as hell. But first and foremost, I think the house and senate could use a good overhaul.

5. Typical manuever and with the 24 hour 'news' nets blaring
this latest talking point it may get some legs. Even the most outrageous, bald-faced bullshit gets treated like real news these days with Fux and the other lowlife propaganda organs going on a 24X7 blitzkrieg. Sure we know it's bullshit but that doesn't matter.

7. It won't work because....
The Democrats are not in power. You have to have power in order for bribery to work.

10. I have been following the Fieger case here in Michigan and I think
they are trying to lay the groundwork there...to attempt to bring down Levin. there is also scuttle butt going around that it is an attempt to smear Edwards. The FBI has so far refused to release details of the investigation to the public...which I find smelly, to say the least.

13. If Democrats are involved, they should go down, too.
In fact, they should come out publically and take as many Republicans down with them as they can. It's their fucking duty to this country at this point.

16. Fine with me. Link away. The deeper we dig, the more scum gets thrown out
Since the vast majority will be Republicans, it will hurt them far more.
